FC Dallas starts training this Monday, February 1st, with players undergoing physicals in the morning and a 6 PM session that evening on field #4. FCD will then train twice a day for roughly two weeks before going to Orlando to take part in the inaugural Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic. Of much more interest are the four missing names on the announced preseason roster. There are also some interesting trialists listed.
 FC Dallas has parted ways with their second string goalkeeper, Ray Burse, Jr.. FCD had previously declined the option on Burse’s contract, similarly to Dave van den Bergh. Also similarly to van den Bergh, when contacted last week Burse said he had not received a new contract offer from FCD. According to our sources, FC Dallas has been scouting a keeper in Germany. The waiver of Burse, coming as it does a week from opening of most MLS camps, seems to indicate FCD may be close to signing a new keeper; whether it is this unknown keeper in Germany or some other player remains to be seen. |

FCD Makes the versatile North Carolina senior their first pick at #5. Loyd is a smart technical player who can take the field almost anywhere in midfield or the back line. I project his best spot as holding mid in the long run. Loyd is a smart player and leader with a great skill set.
FC Dallas has, in a not to surprising move, traded their #6 overall SuperDraft pick to the Philadelphia Union in exchange for allocation money. With an already full roster and six picks in hand, Dallas really needed to move one or more of the picks as the space for any rookies will be quite small on this next year’s squad. With local talent Lee Nguyen having clearly stated his desire to play for FCD and the club wanting to sign him, allocation money was a quality pick up. Dallas still holds the #5 overall pick and should see some nice talent at that position.
David Ferreira, the FCD Colombian playmaker, is secured for 2010 season. FC Dallas had been attempting to bring Ferreira back at a more cap friendly number. Picking up the contract option probably means Ferreira’s contract will escalate, although it’s unlikely we’ll know by how much until the player’s union leaks the contract numbers of all the player. Contract value aside, retaining Ferreira was always going to be a key for success this year given the team is built around the playmaker.
Since Dave Dir left FC Dallas he’s been running ASG Futbol Club and working as a commentator on FC Dallas broadcasts. Recently Coach Dir and ASG has taken on a new cause, a fundraising effort to help assist one of his players, 12 year old Christian Greaf. Christian joined AGS when his family moved here from Colorado. Unfortunately Christian has recently been diagnosed with anaplastic large cell lymphoma. ASG’s First Kick Foundation is putting together a Kicks for Cancer fundraising event and you can help. Kicks for Cancer takes place Sunday, January 31st from 3 pm to 6 pm at Sole Roll Indoor Soccer Center in Dallas.
