Today was, I thought, a day FCD would hold a scrimmage against Regals FC. That’s sorta what happened, and it’s sorta not. You see, the FCD reserves only played the first half of the scrimmage. After that the FCD Juniors took over and played the second half. During the first half of play the FCD starters trained on the next field over, and during the second half the entire FCD squad trained on the next field over. So today was a scrimmage. And it wasn’t.

Today was the day of the first Milton Rodriguez sighting. He arrived last night and was out at training today watching. His physical is also today and he will be training tomorrow [Thursday]. Marco Ferruzzi spend the entire session talking to Rodriguez, pointing out players and tactics it seems. Coach Hyndan introduces Rodriguez to the team later in the session.

Today is the day FC Dallas officially announces their signing of Milton Rodriguez, which we told you about a month ago. He’s not here of course, but the press release went out while I was at training. Hyndman says Rodriguez will show up June 1st and is already advanced in his P1 visa application. Transfer window opens July 15th, so no league games till then, but Rodriguez will have time to settle and can play in scrimmages etc.

What a beautiful day, the second best time of the year IMO (I love the fall more). The flowers are out, the Byron is around the corner, and as long as the allergies aren’t out of control it’s a fantastic time of year to be out at FC Dallas training.

What a gorgeous day, temps hit 70 and just a light breeze. Absolutely fabulous condition for some soccer training. Quite a few observers, coaches, and players remark on the wonderful conditions. This is my second favorite time of year, fall being my favorite. If it only it would last longer. I’m sure it will be 98 next week. Friday was media day at FCD training. I set the over under at 10 media members and I’m glad to say FCD broke it. I don’t think they hit 20, but it might have been close.

And so begins another year of the glory that is FC Dallas soccer. Ok, so maybe glory is a bit much, but it sure is heck a lot of fun having a top level professional soccer team to follow. I for one remember what it was like to live in the vacuum between the NASL and MLS. I’m thankful every year to have something like FCD to drive me crazy.

Training this week was supposed to be Wednesday and Friday. I headed up on Wednesday and was informed by coach Hyndman that training on Friday was moved to Thursday. Hyndman didn’t have time to talk on Wednesday cause he had to go to a meeting with ownership at 11 am and was going to miss the back end training as it was.

I went out to training yesterday, but there was so much news to put on the site I held off doing this report till today. It was a touch on the cold side starting out training, but by the end of the session it was beautiful. It’s a long session today and the players seem in a positive frame of mind. I can’t help but they they must also feel better about the future. It sounds like FCD will be training this week and next at least.

It’s actually cold today in Frisco, or at least cold to a Texan as the temps are in the 50s. Hyndman cuts short training cause of the chill. He says he’s been coaching so long he’s learned to trust his instincts about weather. Good call I think, training a this time of year isn’t about fitness. So cutting it short is a good idea, it’s not worth the risk of injury.

It’s a bit wet out, cloudy and overcast with sprinkles all session; just as it has been all week. The cool low 70s temps make for great training conditions. Hyndman says it’s been a terrific week. We’ll see if it translates to the KC game.
