Match Report: FC Dallas at Kansas City Wizards

August 24th, 2008 . By: John Carlton

Last week’s match at Columbus set a precedent for FC Dallas, giving up a lead and then going on to lose. This Saturday’s match at Kansas City continued a worrying trend of losing leads, although the circumstances were quite different. Wizards’ defender Jimmy Conrad scored a tap-in goal in stoppage time to share the points with Dallas and keep both teams alive in the race for the MLS playoffs.

Match Report: FC Dallas at Columbus Crew

August 17th, 2008 . By: John Carlton

FC Dallas swung back into MLS action Saturday evening in Columbus against a Crew team that has lingered near the top of the league table for most of the season. The Hoops were defeated 2-1 by the Crew in a match that really could have gone to either side, given the number of near misses and shots off the woodwork. The lone Dallas goal was scored by new arrival Jeff Cunningham and marked his 100th goal scored in Major League Soccer.

Match Report: FC Dallas at Toronto FC

August 3rd, 2008 . By: John Carlton

After a terrific home outing against the LA Galaxy last week, FC Dallas swaggered to victory at BMO Field over Toronto FC, 2-0, on Sunday. The home loss was Toronto’s first on the season. FC Dallas won behind two goals from red-hot striker Kenny Cooper and an unexpected infusion of energy from the Hoops’ very promising youth corps.

In the most full-throated demonstration of team football this season, FC Dallas totally dismantled the LA Galaxy on a sweltering Sunday evening at Pizza Hut Park. In the process, the Hoops signaled to the sold-out crowd that they would not give up on the season. The 4-0 spanking marked new coach Schellas Hyndman’s first MLS victory.

Match Report: Colorado Rapids vs FC Dallas

July 20th, 2008 . By: John Carlton

The Colorado Rapids staked an early lead Saturday night at Pizza Hut Park, but FC Dallas came back with two goals of their own. Unfortunately, the Hoops gave up the equalizer shortly after scoring the go-ahead goal and, like every other MLS match of Week 18, this one ended in a draw.

Abe Wins It (Rags Gardner, RII)
Abe Thompson only scores goals in stoppage time. At least that’s what the FC Dallas striker would have you believe. In the last two games, Thompson has played the role of Euro 2008’s Turkish “fireman” Semih Şentürk, scoring stoppage time goals in three of four halves. Thompson’s 91st minute equalizer against the Kansas City Wizards gave FC Dallas a crucial draw on Independence Day at Pizza Hut Park.

July 2nd, 2008 . By: John Carlton

With a superior display of touch passing and attacking football Tuesday night at Pizza Hut Park, FC Dallas dominated Miami FC Blues in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. With two stoppage time goals, one in the first half and one in the second half, Abe Thompson continued his excellent play in the national championship and provided coach Schellas Hyndman with his first victory as manager.

Match Report: FC Dallas vs Houston Dynamo

June 28th, 2008 . By: John Carlton

FC Dallas took to the road Thursday night for an encounter with in-state rivals Houston Dynamo. The second match of the Schellas Hyndman era looked very much like the first, at least in the opening 45 minutes. But Kenny Cooper’s equalizer in the second half gave Dallas a crucial point and ownership of “El Capitán” for a year.

Match Report: FC Dallas at New York Red Bulls

June 22nd, 2008 . By: John Carlton

The first game of the Schellas Hyndman era ended in a shutout loss for FC Dallas Saturday evening at Giants Stadium against Red Bull New York. The defeat continued the Red Stripes’ futility on the road this season, giving them a 1-4-2 mark away from Pizza Hut Park. For Hyndman, it was a less than impressive christening of his MLS coaching career.

Match Report: Chicago Fire vs FC Dallas

June 16th, 2008 . By: John Carlton

Building on the solid performance in the second half of last week’s match at New England, FC Dallas put together a fine ninety minutes of possession and counter-attacking soccer at home against the Chicago Fire on Sunday afternoon in Frisco. Watching the game at Pizza Hut Park was SMU headman Schellas Hyndman, purportedly the first-choice candidate to become the Hoops’ new head coach.
