The dark side to being “Comeback Kids” is that you have to play from behind in order to orchestrate the fantastic finishes that earn the name.
Simply enough, there was no foul. None. The referee’s disgraceful whistle halted the greatest USA comeback in World Cup history as the Yanks settled for a 2-2 draw with tiny Slovenia. Only the USA’s stunning return from a 0-2 deficit in the second half saved what Landon Donovan had called a “must win” from spelling World Cup disaster for the Americans.

Shea’s goals, just two minutes apart were ample demonstration that his early-season jitters seem far behind the young player. Shea’s emergence should figure in any chances Dallas has over the remainder of the season to secure a post-season berth. Indeed, both goals were so calmly taken and made to look so simple that memories of booted game-winning sitters faded in these two lovely goals.

Do MLS referees have too much say in the outcomes of matches? In a match marred by poor officiating, FC Dallas tied the Chicago Fire 1-1 Thursday night at Toyota Park. All the scoring was accounted for in a book-ended first half with scores coming from David Ferreira in the sixth minute and Brian McBride at the 40’ mark. Only Ferreira’s goal should have counted.

The lone goal, scored in the 68th minute, was set up when Heath Pearce cut inside to find David Ferreira, who found Cunningham winning a footrace. Cunningham easily beat 19 year-old DC ‘keeper Bill Hamid.
