So, how were the ratings Saturday night? Were they good enough to get a second shot? Probably not.

On Saturday night, WFAA8 preempted ABC’s entire prime-time schedule for homegrown coverage of an FC Dallas soccer game. The 7 to 7:30 p.m. warmup show drew 20,359 total viewers in running fourth behind programming on CBS, NBC and Fox. The game itself averaged 27,145 viewers, again running a distant fourth. WFAA8’s 9:30 to 10 p.m. coverage of a post-game fireworks show had a comparatively robust 67,863 viewers, nipping the second half-hour of Fox4’s local newscast.

How on earth can 30,000 more people tune in to watch a firework display ON TELEVISION than watch a top flight pro soccer match?? Complete madness!

I would agree Chamo, running 4th in a 4 horse race does not get you back on the track. Damn shame.

Yes bad results. Also a crazy night to try and accurately gauge interest. If I recall, there were two pro baseball games and countless firework displays that evening – so the competition was stiff both for PHP and the TV audience. Just a guess that the people tuning into the Bachelor are not FC Dallas’ target audience.

I would hardly call it a top flight match

How does the WFAA game compare with people that watch games on Fox Sports Southwest Plus?
