Hyndman Calls Out Cunningham

April 19th, 2010 . 9:20 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

At least it sounds like it to me.

What do you think?

“I think he’s a complicated person to figure out. He’s been around so long and he’s a proven goal scorer,” the FCD coach said. “You look at him and think it must be confidence. Maybe he’s thinking too much instead of trying to be natural. He’s a player that kind of wears his emotions on his sleeve. He’s not an easy player to counsel because if you say the wrong thing to him, he takes it the wrong way. So what you hope to do is have him come out of it. And then at some point in time, you have to look at someone else.”

“This game coming up is a real opportunity for him to come out. We all know he can do it. It’s getting it done in practice. That’s where you build the confidence. If you can score four or five goals in practice, then that builds confidence for the game.”

This coach is a douche. I don’t think he’ll ever be a good coach in MLS because he doesn’t understand the league and thinks he’s still coaching college kids . . Put simply, he’s a terrible coach that keeps FCD from realizing their true potential

    Speaking of douches….

Chase: if the epithet fits, wear it proudly. FC Dallas is having a FINISHING problem. The rest of the world agrees Hyndman has this team looking great everywhere else.

However, you;’re an idiot. And you should be smacked about the head and neck by the reality that you suck.

Please do us all a favor and shut your filthy cake-hole. You add nothing but stupidity. Perhaps World Wrestling Federation needs new fans. Be gone.

It doesn’t sound like a call out but this little extra pyscho analysis is odd. I would of file that away as an in-house conversation. If it was me, I wouldn’t of taken these comments well.

i agree….sounds like stuff that shouldn’t be in the news. Really worthless information. And i’m sure cunningham is smart enough to know he should be finishing without SH coming out and embarassing him to the press. Super lame….

I ain’t sayin or whatever your name is, are you also chase and just staging a slapdown?
If you’re for real then you’re really young or really off your meds. Chase is commenting on a coach that is shooting himself in the foot and you take exception with Chase? You are the one that’s out of line.

I ain’t sayin is exactly why it isn’t worth it to comment on this club on this site anymore. If you dare to say in any form that things aren’t going well, you get personally attacked by some dumba$$ without a brainwave to speak of.

This is again SH not knowing how to deal with a professional player because he is a college coach. And oh happy day, the new TD is a college coach. Oh yes, this is really going to work out well.

I do get that the start of SH’s tenure was frustrating for some folks, but why do some people flame him every time his name comes up here?
This looks to me like he was answering a question about Cunningham’s poor form. He seemed to dance around the question well enough to make it clear that his terrible finishing was unacceptable without berating him in the media. What’s the problem.

The Offside Rules had a great commentary a few days that seems relevant to all of our tendencies to trash each other and the organization we are supposedly fans of:

“we, the American soccer fan, are one of the most negative creatures to ever come in contact with the internet.”

Read the quote again. SH says, “He’s a player that kind of wears his emotions on his sleeve. He’s not an easy player to counsel because if you say the wrong thing to him, he takes it the wrong way. So what you hope to do is have him come out of it.”

Translation: I don’t know how to talk to this guy. I just hope that he can pull himself out of it, because if I speak to him like I did to my SMU players, he takes it the wrong way.

    Chad,
Exactly. What’s wrong with his admitting that when asked? Look at Cunny’s MLS career. What coach DID know how to talk to the guy?

SH needs to keep his thoughts about players to himself. Don’t try to motivate through the media. Only coaches that have won championships at the professional level can call out players in the media. With SH doing it the player will laugh then want to be traded. Also, who said on this blog that SH has this team going in the right direction except for the forwards. What the record? 0-2-1. Oh yes, we are heading in the right direction.

Mark my word. Cunningham will want to be traded by mid season if this team does not put some wins together and if they don’t trade him he will be injured. Why would Cunningham who has more professional experience in him then SH listen to SH calling him out in the media.

    Just keeping them honest.

I think Buzz is just chumming the waters to see if the SH haters are still reading his website.

SH states the truth: Mr. Goldboots isn’t pulling his weight. Ho-hum, ho-hum.

What is moderately interesting, is how SH plans to address the problem. He basically says, “Cunningham is a notorious goal-scorer, but not the best listener. So, I’ll leave him alone to fix the problem. If he can’t, then I’ll find someone else.” Wow, it sounds like he’s treating Cunningham as an adult and a professional. How typical college coach.

    Excellent point Teddy!

I don’t think SH is so bad. He’s done some tthings differently than I and others would have, but IMO the team hasn’t looked so bad. I do find it odd that he didn’t bring in a forward. Saborio would’ve been a nice fit it seems. I’m sure he notices he needs a striker. Sure makes you miss Kenny huh?

“And then at some point in time, you have to look at someone else.”

Unfortunately, SH didn’t have the forethought to think this might be a problem and to line up someone else in the off season. Right now, its Cunningham or bust.

Incidentally, this may be prescient of SH future if FCD doesn’t perform well this season…

  15. Comment by Andy on April 21, 2010 10:03 AM

Anybody think that JC could be less than motivated, knowing that Milton is coming?

  16. Comment by Chad on April 21, 2010 11:15 AM

Problem is that SH thinks that he can pull JC’s scholarship if he doesn’t improve.

And what is SH’s pro career record?

  17. Comment by FCDFan on April 24, 2010 8:39 PM

Lets watch another 5 games or so and see how this first half plays out. SH has all of his recruits on campus now, so it’s his team and reputation on the line, we all know that. All the knee jerk comments are premature, it’s a long season and the goal is to get into the playoffs and be on a roll toward the end. Lets just hope they don’t dig a hole too deep in the first half
