FC Dallas Signs Kevin Hartman
March 8th, 2010 . 1:34 pm . By: Buzz CarrickAccording to 3rd Degree sources, FC Dallas has agreed to terms with former Kansas City Wizards and LA Galaxy keeperKevin Hartman. Terms of the deal are unknown at this time. Kansas City had failed to come to terms with Hartman on a new deal and had made it clear he wasn’t in their plans for this season. FCD’s young Generation adidas keep Josh Lmbo will now be going out on loan for the season, most likely to some USL team. Just last week, while FCD coach Schellas Hyndman said he was “100% happy with Dario Sala,” the coach also said he wanted a legit challenge at every position and was looking to sign a keeper. Kansas City recently signed keeper Jimmy Nelson as a replacement for Hartman. Since KC hasn’t waived Hartman some form of compensation is probably going be passed between the teams as there is no free agency for out of contract players in MLS. Sean Kelley now looks set to be the FCD third keeper as Josh Lambo will be sent out on loan. While a loan team has not been arranged, the current FCD staff does have relationships in the USL and a team in USL-1 or USL-2 seem the most likely destination. Hartman has played twelve seasons in MLS, appearing in 333 regular season MLS games with a career 1.24 GAA and record of 146-120 -64. Edit: It’s official… FC DALLAS ACQUIRES GOALKEEPER KEVIN HARTMANFRISCO, Texas (Monday, March 8, 2010) – FC Dallas has signed goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, the team announced today. Dallas acquired Hartman in a trade with the Kansas City Wizards, sending them a second round selection in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft in exchange for the four-time MLS All-Star. Hartman appeared in all 30 regular season games for the Wizards in the 2009 season, earning a 1.40 goals against average and collecting an impressive 105 saves. Hartman’s all-time regular season record is 146-120-64 and his post-season record is 22-15-7. “I’m excited to be in Dallas,” said Hartman. “It’s the place where I won the 2005 championship with the Galaxy and it’s always held a place in my heart. I’m excited to be here to play in front of the Dallas fans and excited to start a new chapter in my soccer career. The UCLA graduate was drafted in the third round of the 1997 College Draft by the Los Angeles Galaxy where he remained for 10 seasons. While with the Galaxy, Hartman helped lead the team to the 2002 and 2005 MLS Cup titles, Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup titles in 2001 and 2005 and the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 2000. In 1999, he was named the MLS Pepsi Goalkeeper of the Year and was voted to the MLS AT&T Best XI team. A four-time MLS All-Star (2000, 2003, 2004, 2005), Hartman holds all the major goalkeeping records in MLS history. He owns the record in games played in goal with 333, games started in goal with 328, minutes played in goal with 29,835, wins in goal with 146, saves in goal with 1,235 and shutouts with 84. Hartman appeared in 243 games in goal for the Galaxy before being traded to Kansas City in 2007. In three seasons with the Wizards, Hartman played every minute of the regular season. In 2000, Hartman made his first appearance with the U.S. National team in a match versus Jamaica which ended in a 2-2 tie. He made his first career start with the national team on Jan. 29, 2006, when the U.S. shut out Norway 5-0. He has earned a career total of five caps with the national team. Author of a children’s book, Hartman is highly involved in the community, most recently working with literacy efforts in Kansas City. Not a bad set of events. Lambo gets some game time to develop his skills and we get a decent backup keeper.
Anybody know Hartman’s cap hit?
USL-1? You probably mean USSF D2
Yikes…I sure hope Hartman isn’t a backup, not for his pricetag.
I like it. We can afford the cap hit and if/when dario picks up an injury Kevin should be a great player to step in. I still hope Dario stays healthy but this is far better then Joshtrying to be the number two right now.
Viva, hartman was out of contract. So whatever his new contract he jus agreed to with fcd will be his new number.
I hope the local CVS is stocked on bleach…..
??!!!
I still remember watching the game where he let in two own goals with bad foot play!
FCD players should have to run laps if they back-pass to him!
This is a great deal for Dallas. Hartman has 5 caps I believe.
Great goalie and person with a great work ethic.
Haha whatta joke . .
compensation for Hartman = Dave vdBerg???
Sounds like a drinking game.
I think last year Hartman was $165k.
If we offer any more than 80k then we’re overpaying based upon recent performances.
twotone – not a bad idea.
TT, 2nd round pick.
Great move
I approve.
Nathan is spot on. We’ll find out when the players union releases the players’ salaries.
This is an excellent addition. Dario will have to work to keep a starting spot, nothing wrong with that. Let’s just hope Dario can stay injury free. And Josh gets games under his belt and experience so he can challenge for starting keeper in a year or two. Good deal all the way around.
no loan deal is set. No guarantee Josh gets games. this is just speculation right now, so be patient to see if something is worked out. nobody knows what SH is thinking. heck, Lambo could be the #3 and Kelley could end up being cut and i wouldnt be surprised.
or Lambo could get loaned, Kelley cut and FCD host a MLS pool keeper again.
Great addition. Now Hartman will be on a team that can finally score and hopefully some good will come of thisl I think he was one of the the best players on KC for the last three years and had a great run with the Galaxy too. Never really understood that trade either. But I guess that is the nature of professional sports….. Poor move on KC’s part and good for FC Dallas as Kevin continues to play at a very competitive level and become a fan favorite wherever he goes….Good luck Kevin and go FC Dallas!!!!!!!!!!
Great addition for the veteran keeper as his records speaks for itself. At 35 he is in great shape and still playing at a very high level and has a great work ethic. Good luck kevin. Should prove to be an exciting year!
Any news on signing a striker? It’s really starting to frustrate me now
Didn’t you see English… We got Freddy Adu …
teddy, with this staff, you just never know. the loan makes perfect sense, but when has FCD done anything thats made perfect sense?
Now if we could only figure out which games Sala will have his feet stuck in concrete (and you know they’ll be a few), we’ll be good to go. Really, if you could just put the two together you’d have a pretty decent keeper.
By the way, Twotone is right, FCD has never done anything that makes perfect sense. In fact, they might be the perfect study in how not to run a professional soccer team. In a twisted way, that makes it all kind of fun to watch. Something like a slow motion train wreck.
[...] first mentioned Josh Lambo’s pending loan in our Kevin Hartman story, and by now you may have seen the various reprints of the FCD press [...]
