FCD Lands More Allocation Money

February 2nd, 2010 . 12:26 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

FC Dallas has landed more allocation money, this time from Chivas USA, for passing on a discovery claim filed on Osa Romero.  FC Dallas are believed to have filed a discovery claim on Romero just before the 2009 Gold Cup.

FCD Having first filed the discovery claim, any MLS club wishing to sign Romero had to send money to Dallas.  According to one report DC United and Colorado were also chasing Romero.

This is the second time this spring FCD has given up an asset for allocation money having previously traded a draft pick for cash.  Hyndman is one the record as saying FCD is going to bring in a striker.

A couple names were linked to FCD today that have yet to be verified.  The first is 21 year old Brazilian striker Simao who has been playing in Romania.  Another CAP connection by the way.

This article says (translation by Google):

Having left a good impression at FC Botosani and FCM Bacau, Brazilian Simão (photo) has left Romania to transfer to Major League Soccer, the FC Dallas, Juan Toja stelist former team, inform liga2.ro.

Simao strikes more as a trialist than anything, mainly due to his age.

Also linked to FCD is T&T striker Kerry Baptiste.  A 28 striker currently with Joe Public is a player in the prime of his career that makes more sense as a “big signing” to play up top in a Jeff Cunningham style.  Baptiste apparently also has a trial lined up with Ipswich.

Stay tuned on any signing.

Here’s the FCD PR on the allocation money FCD received from Chivas.

FC DALLAS ACQUIRES ALLOCATION MONEY FROM CHIVAS USA

FRISCO, Texas (Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010) – FC Dallas today announced it acquired allocation money from Chivas USA in exchange for the rights to El Salvadoran midfielder Osael Romero. FC Dallas held Romero’s rights because it had previously filed a discovery claim on the player.

Interesting. He’s 5′9″, 21 years old. One can hope we strike gold.

Also, one wonders if he can play both striker spots in the 4141. If so, he’d have added value to SH because he would have the flexibility of having 4 players for 3 spots (Cunny, Dax, David, & Simao).

Buzz – what about Stern John? He was on loan to Ipswich and they opted not to keep him. Apparently his contract at Crystal Palace is up and not getting renewed.

FYI – TnT site lists Baptiste as a midfielder not a striker.
