The Toronto Sun writer is dead on. I hope the players are listening. It may be the first time I’ve seen FC Dallas written about as a “troubled franchise”. Nice to see it said what we here all know.
So glad you’re back to doing the News Recap, Chamo. Thanks for taking the time to keep us informed.
The players need to focus on one demand, and that would be the right to free transfers when their contracts expire. Everything else they want is pure fantasy at this time.
That Sun piece is well-thought out commentary for the most part. The players should definitely aim for one small concession from the league now, and aim for bigger progress once Philly, Portland, and Vancouver have established themselves.
I don’t think labeling FCD a “troubled franchise,” isn’t entirely accurate, though. Last time Forbes released analysis of MLS financials, FCD was one of only three franchises (along w LA and TFC I think) to turn a profit. Do I wish that re-invest more of that into the roster? Sure, but this franchise is on much more solid footing than KC, San Jose and some of the other clubs that have been more successful on the pitch.
Pretty powerful line right at the end…
“Make peace now, wallow in the nice PR that will come the union’s way, and keep that goodwill in your pocket when it comes time for 2011, when Garber will have more sellouts on his hands, and a lot more to lose.”
Your welcome texgator. I had to resume this activity because in my estimation this off-season was going to be one of the most interesting ones ever. To watch what Hyndman would do to maintain the momentum they built towards the end of last season in the upcoming season. To see him build depth at positions in which he may loose players to the US National team for a couple of months. And to top it off, we have the potential strike.
I think the players should go after the free agency in MLS rule. Why should a player not be able to sign with another team in MLS when their contract is over? Instead they go overseas.
