Mwanga Signing with MLS

December 28th, 2009 . 7:02 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Here’s my latest update to the GA tracking.

My source says someone from MLS met with Mwenga for a late appeal.  That meeting plus reworked terms has caused the striker to change his mind and agree to sign with MLS.  Has also signed with Motzkin and contract is in the final stages.

Good. We need to draft a quality forward and another addition to the draft certainly enhances that probability

Mwenga is not quality… he has a tone of speed but not much else

I’m a club coach in southern california who’s played against Danny over the years in Regionals & high profile tournaments.

I recall our first impression of him before our 1st match as opponents. His touches on the ball during warm-ups were class. My brother and I immediately said “this guys on another level and is going to rape us”. Well, Mwanga did not disappoint.

At the college level he also did not disappoint. And if he signs with MLS, mark my words – he will not disappoint.

I’ll go further. His Technical Quality and Soccer IQ coupled with his physical attributes makes him BY FAR the best player in the draft! No Joke!

Few, if any, players in US Soccer have his quality and potential. The US should try to expedite his citizenship and cap him on the NT.

However, signing with MLS is bittersweet for me. In my opinion, this is not the place for a player of his caliber and potential to mature properly. Being nurtured in Europe would have been much better – but I understand there may be obstacles.

In any case, congrats Danny! You’re a baller & hopefully you can show others how the game should be played …

Buzz…it seems as though MLS is signing most of its top targets and is close to signing a few more, according to your tracker. It surprises me a bit considering there are no assurances the CBA will be completed. Do the GA players still get paid if the league has a lockout? I would think this would be the year more college players try to make the jump to Europe or to stay in school one more year. If you have any information on this I would appreciate it if you posted it, or if I have missed it on your site please direct me to the correct page. Thanks.

Guarantees would be a case by case basis. But I think most ga deals are guaranteed for a couple season. It just depends.

Doug, There is a bit more senior depth on defense and some nice mids. Attacking talent is looking real good with the GA signings.
