Jay Needham Update

December 17th, 2009 . 12:51 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Here’s a great bit from Yanks Abroad on my boy.  I’m sure most readers know I’m a massive fan of this kid.

I wouldn’t mind seeing him in Dallas for sure.

    Can he play outside mid?

Note how he is suddenly available while DvB is on his way out… and Needham is from SMU…

Not sayin’ this would be a bad thing… just making an observation.

The last paragraph makes a Frisco landing for Needham less than likely. . . .

Sounds like it might be interesting but I think it might take a decent amount of money to come back.

I really respect this guy. He’s a strong Christian and that is his compass. He is the rare guy who wasn’t really willing to take the crap MLS was putting out like some many others have and charted his own course and it’s paying off. I see a lot of similiarities with Badson with how he lives and conducts his career. Let’s hope Jay can some day achieve that level on the field.

He mentions getting positioning advice from Clarke. Was he playing defender or mid when he got that advice? If defender kind of a shot at SH.

I agree the last paragraph says it all…… Who R Ya??????
But the Dreams of a Needham Ngyen, Hernandez midfield all of whom have local ties speaks volumes for the state of Local Soccer…..

If he is a central defender, then that spot is locked up by Daniel Hernandez. But he could come in to push DH for that spot.

But if he’s looking for a stadium full of people screaming and a great atmosphere, then FCD is not the place for him.

Needham was a Cb at SMU, but Colin Clarke made him a outside back which is where he won USL Rookie of the Year. In Norway he was at CB again. But his real breakthrough came this last year when he moved to holding mid and became the team’s best player.

Thanks Buzz. I guess no shot at SH. Since he can play D mid he might be an aquisition for FCD after all. Would be one of if not the biggest d mid in the league.

Buzz, i too would love to see this former mustang in an FC Dallas jersey. Would definitely be ideal as our defensive mid. With him being a free agent, do you think there’s been any contact between him and FCD management?
