MLSRumors, in their relentless search for nugets, came across a Hunt family reclaim of their Dallas Tornado trademark.  Check the link for their thoughts on the move and how it might or might not fit in with the re-born NASL.

One hypothetical they didn’t mention could be a partnetship with the PDL level DFW Tornadoes.

We’ll see if we can get to the bottom of this.

My guess is they grabbed it before the new NASL tried to acquire it.

@Will – that was my first thought as well

  3. Comment by jonesing on December 3, 2009 2:30 PM

I would agree with Will except for the fact that this filing was made June 9th, 2009 which was several months before the new “NASL” league developed and shockingly took on the NASL name. I doubt HSG saw the comeback of the NASL name coming back in June.
Hence I suspect the PDL partnership with DFW Tornadoes may be a better guess. With no reserve league we need some type of developmental league for the not ready for primetime players

    ditto jonesing

Please let this lead to a throwback uniform! They could bring it out for teams with NASL bloodlines, like Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver. Yes, I’m a uni-geek.

I’d be pretty stoked if it led to jonesing’s theory of a PDL partnership, too.

No, their re-branding again — “FC Dallas Tornado”

  7. Comment by Dave on December 3, 2009 5:43 PM

Would it be possible to simply field a team completely made up of reserves in NASL? Maybe they don’t qualify for playoffs or any type of profits, they just have games occasionally at PHP against NASL teams.

  8. Comment by jonesing on December 3, 2009 7:53 PM

The “new” NASL seems to want to compete with MLS eventually, so I seriously doubt FCD or any MLS team would try to put together a reserve team to play in NASL.
More like FCD and MLS team will partner with PDL teams.

  9. Comment by Scott on December 3, 2009 7:54 PM

I thing it’s a rebranding like Mike said. FC might have worked out without the Hoops fiasco, but I would think a move to Tornados would be a good start.

Can’t FCD just get it’s own PDL team?

  10. Comment by Dave Clark on December 3, 2009 11:39 PM

jonesning, if NASL wants to compete with MLS it would be incredibly stupid for both Vancouver and Montreal to want to operate a team in both leagues.

  11. Comment by historian on December 4, 2009 12:11 AM

They will likely use the Tornado logo for some kind of “Tornado” area at PHP. Pretty cool.

  12. Comment by ericJ on December 4, 2009 10:33 AM

So they can sell it and make money off of it if the new league wants it?

  13. Comment by jonesing on December 4, 2009 12:54 PM

yes Dave Clark it would be stupid, but who says Vancouver and Montreal have plans to operate teams in both leagues?

  14. Comment by Dave Clark on December 4, 2009 5:11 PM

Both Vancouver and Montreal have said they have exactly that plan.

Vancouver has even announced that there NASL team will be based in Edmonton and called the Drillers.

Rumor on Montreal is that they will be in Quebec for their non-MLS side.

And it is almost certain that those will be run as Reserve sides for their MLS properties.
