Dax McCarty Re-Signs with FCD
November 9th, 2009 . 4:17 pm . By: Buzz CarrickAccording to 3rd Degree sources, Dax McCarty has re-signed with FC Dallas and Major League Soccer. FC Dallas has yet to confirm the signing. McCarty is coming off the best season of his career and has been called into the US senior team for their upcoming friendly versus Slovakia. While we have been unable to discover the terms, most MLS deals run 3 to 4 years. It’s pure speculation, but it’s probably safe to guess that McCarty will landed a deal somewhere between $150,000 and $200,000 a season. It’s official… FC DALLAS RE-SIGNS MIDFIELDER DAX MCCARTYFRISCO, Texas (Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009) – FC Dallas has re-signed midfielder Dax McCarty, head coach Schellas Hyndman announced today. Terms of the deal were not released per team and league policy. “Dax was a key member of the team this season and a vital part of the successful late-season run we had,” said Hyndman. “Ensuring Dax would be in a FC Dallas uniform next season was a top priority for us.” The sixth overall pick of the 2006 MLS SuperDraft as a Generation adidas player, McCarty has spent all four years of his Major League Soccer career with FC Dallas. In 2009, he started 27 of 28 games, scoring three goals and delivering six assists, both single-season career highs. In his MLS career, McCarty has started 71 games, tallying four goals and 15 assists in 4,777 minutes of play. A native of Winter Park, Fla., McCarty attended North Carolina where he earned second-team All-America honors as a sophomore. He was a member of the U.S. Men’s Olympic Team during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, after helping the U.S. U-23 team earn its Olympic berth. McCarty is currently in Slovakia training with the U.S. Men’s National Team for two November friendlies in what serves as his first career call-up to the 22-man roster. FC Dallas opens its 2010 home slate with in-state rival Houston Dynamo March 27 at Pizza Hut Park. Fantastic news! So now what is “Job Two”? Ferreira, new striker, keep Benitez and Hernandez, something else?
Very surprised he re-signed so soon.
I’ll take it!
screaming Bretos-style:
YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAHHHHHHH!
I agree with Will. With the CBA being over this year I would have thought you wait until that is all worked out and maybe get a little more money. But i would play soccer for 150,000 to 200,000 if I could get. Although if i was good enough to earn it I might want more.
Surprised too, but 200K a year, you have to take that. Great week for McCarty
Yay! That’s great news.
Another great scoop, Buzz. Very happy tidings.
@Rex – I say new striker is job 2
Yes; we have Dax to kick around some more! He’s great web fodder, and a player FCD needs. I think his future is bright!
Buzz,
What do you base that salary figure on? Dax is a nice player but not a dominating player by any means and simply not worth more $125K in this league.
Rick,
Over the last 10 games or so Dax was a dominating player. He controlled the midfield and linked masterfully with David.
His play is incredibly underrated and I for one am ecstatic that we re-signed him.
DISCLAIMER: This comment was by “tony” on October 29, 2009 9:32 AM. It reads:
“Let me just go on the record and say there is ZERO chance Dax will be back. He hates it here and only played the good soldier to make himself more marketable per the advice of his management team. It’s clear in his comments that he’s leaving the door open just in case other options don’t pan out but he is willing to go anywhere to improve his career situation with the Nats and a big european pay day.”
I think it is official.
Worst. Prediction. Ever.
For a young player in MLS, being a dominating player “over the last 10 games or so” doesn’t get you 200 grand per year.
I would say somewhere between Buzz’s low end and Rick’s estimate is about right, 125K to 150K. Although they wrapped this deal of kind of quickly, so maybe Buzz’s higher end could be right. Plus, if there’s no technical director in place yet, they may have overpaid. So maybe the higher end could be right. Better for Dax than FCD if true. But good for the team to have him re-signed.
viva la flecha roja! next up, dp striker?
I think Benitez should be the next priority.
I base it on Drew Moor roughly $150,000. Ihemelu $140k.
Goodson turns down roughly $175k. Alvarez $180k, E. Gavin $175, Beckerman $165, Marvel Wynn $160… just to name a few.

Former GA player, youth international, now full time starter, arguably team MVP, 22 years old, just got called (players know a couple weeks in advance sometimes)…
I call that more than $150k bt less than $200k.
Salaries are about to change, they might’ve gotten him on the cheap.
The Man With The Plan,
There’s been a lot of competition for worst prediction ever on the comments section during the last couple years. Off the top of my head, I remember people prognosticating that:
– FCD would regret trading away Ruiz.
– FCD wouldn’t score at all after selling Cooper.
– FCD would have the worst record in the history of MLS.
– FCD would win out to make 42 points.
– 42 points wouldn’t be enough for the 8th seed.
– Davino/Denilson would do something on the field and/or put butts in the seats
Just saying. All of us have gotten something massively wrong at some point in recent memory.
I was on the record for saying he wouldn’t be here either. Tony’s prediction would’ve been spot on had he said 5%, maybe 10%… the perfect storm of a big end of the year, SH wanting him back, and MLS throwing big money at him. At the end of the day you compare your offers, and while going to Europe is priority number one, he’s not a MNT regular and won’t command big money as a 22 year old, a big offer from MLS with guaranteed playing time are nice carrots
Steve,
True, but at the time that original prediction was made, there were a lot of contra-indicators – most especially SH’s clear public statements that he wanted Dax back.
SH is not perfect and everything isn’t milk and honey, but some people are having a hard time seeing that some things have changed, significantly, and for the positive.
Who cares if predictions are wrong? They’re part of what makes sports great, bookies exist and online boards fun.
Someone should predict that this price will end up being cheap when all is said and done, and that this was a great year for Dax – but probably not even his breakout year…he will get even better.
Maybe I should predict it.
Great news about Dax, he’ll be an important part of the team next year. I’m with ‘Big East Hoops’, we need another striker as job #2
[...] before I could even got this article written, FC Dallas got the job done and re-signed McCarty (Although FCD has yet to confirm it). Re-signing McCarty was paramount because his loss would [...]
Well said Jamez.
Jamez, THERE’S the key difference between a good prediction and a bad one…
“tony”’s prediction was based on sheer hatred and doubt for SH and his philosophies towards players on the team, using very little to no research to back up his word.
YOUR prediction, on the other hand, state areasonable prediction with proof in the pudding, due to the fact that we have all seen McCarty’s potential up-close and personal.
He may not reach that goal you speak of, but the prediction is a good one.
BTW, I don’t wanna create enemies or anything around here. We are all FCD fans and I should remember that before posting again. And as for “tony”, sorry for the harsh words.
I predict…that there will be a lot more predictions…some of them will be spot on…and others, maybe not so much…
