Cunningham Finalist for MLS MVP

Landon Donovan of LA Galaxy and Shalrie Joseph of the New England Revolution are the other two finalists. Cunningham scored 13 goals in his final 12 games of 2009 and led MLS with 17 goals. Before anyone asks, I voted for Shalrie Joseph as MLS MVP. CUNNINGHAM NAMED FINALIST FOR MLS MVP AWARDFRISCO, Texas (Monday, Nov. 2, 2009) – FC Dallas forward Jeff Cunningham has been named as a finalist for the Volkswagen Major League Soccer Most Valuable Player award, MLS announced today. Cunningham is one of three finalists for the MLS year-end Award after earning votes in polling of MLS players, general managers, coaches, referees and members of the media. The 33-year-old veteran forward made a tremendous impact for FC Dallas in 2009 after the departure of marquee player Kenny Cooper during the summer transfer window. Winner of the 2009 MLS Golden Boot after leading the league with 17 goals, Cunningham launched a late-season hot streak that improved FC Dallas to one of the league’s hottest teams in the second half. After notching just four goals prior to the All-Star break, Cunningham scored 13 in the final 12 games, earning team MVP honors for his efforts. Cunningham also provided eight assists this season, finishing second on the team. I agree. Shalrie Joseph pretty much single-handedly took his team to the playoffs.
I’m sure Landycakes will win again though.
Had Dallas made the playoffs then I would be for Cunningham (although he can’t be blamed for not playing much earlier in the season). With all of New Englands injuries Joseph does deserve it.
Interesting how I feel his nomination is justified, but I still feel Dax is the team MVP.
Cunningham can’t win with Dallas missing the playoffs, though. I agree that Shalrie should win it, but Landon had one heck of a year, too.
Glad no one is going with Cunningham as the winner. I am glad he was nominated but certainly not thinking he should win. I tend to lean towards Landon on this since his team did so well after two years of misery but I would have no problem with Joseph wither since they made the playoffs.
Yeah, JC should step aside & let Dax take his nomination, saying “I’m not worthy, I’m not even my team’s MVP.”
