Ricchetti Done in Dallas
October 27th, 2009 . 3:41 pm . By: Buzz CarrickFC Dallas has moved on from Pablo Ricchetti and the one-time captain will no longer be training with the team. While FC Dallas has not waived Ricchetti, the coach has cut ties and informed the player he is not wanted in Dallas anymore. “Everything we do right now is trying to get better,” Said Hyndman. “What is better? For next year. Right now he’s not a part of next year. So I met with him yesterday and just let him know what we were thinking.” The falling out goes back to Ricchetti turning in his armband and give up his captaincy back in September. Hyndman says after that Ricchetti was allowed to continue training, but the bridges had already been burnt. “I kept him around, cause I think it was good that… we needed players in training. If we had been in the playoffs he’d still be here cause I don’t think it would be a disruptive opportunity.” FC Dallas still owns Ricchetti’s rights. Hyndman is clearly done with Ricchetti though and might be looking to move those rights sooner rather than later. Hyndman also hinted Ricchetti might not be the only one moving out. “I also think it’s a situation, right or wrong, if players don’t want to be here, we got to open a door and get them out. Not just open a door, but maybe put a foot in their butt and put them out. Cause they’re just holding us back.” 38 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

LOL @that last sentence. Really not surprising though.
What other players is he talking about? Do you think he meant Rocha or are there other players who don’t want to be here?
Well he’s got a point. Like it or not, Schellas is our coach and his system with those “on board” looked pretty good at the end of the season. I would be kicking dead weight off the team too.
I think now that the season is over Hyndman can finally say what he wanted to say all along when this went down. He’s using this player to make the statement to rest of the non-believers in his system that they too will be gone shortly. I personally think it will be good for FCD in the long-run because as Bill Parcells said, “If you are expected to cook the dinner you should be allowed to buy the groceries.” The late season run showed what Hyndman is cooking may not be so bad after all. Hopefully, Dax and Avila can buy in; the rest of the non-Schellas guys (Ricchetti, Rocha, Lambo, hell even Shea) would be better off moving on.
Am I right in thinking that the roster freeze applies up to the first round of the expansion draft? So nothing can be officially done to move Ricchetti on until then?
Of course that doesn’t stop behind the scenes deals and agreements in principle, but it is still entirely possible that Philly may be interested in drafting him. Assuing he’s willing to stay in MLS, his experience could well be an asset to them.
Rex, there is a one week window between MLS Cup and the expansion draft for trades/waivers.
gawd, I hope Rocha is included in the “other players” he mentioned
You ask to be traded during a playoff push, you are lucky to get any respect from the organization at all. FCD handled this very professionally, even though he earned no such respect.
Whoa, it looks like Hitch is gone, too!
Rocha is on loan from CAP so if the loan does not end already, we can probably send him back to CAP like we did with Ricardinho
If you were an MLS coach would you want a guy who dropped the “I don’t wanna play for you” bombshell going into a playoff run? Pablo… a great guy who made a big mistake there! Good luck in finding a new home and I hope if it’s MLS then we kick yer a$$ when we meet next!
For how long will the team practice, now that the season is finished? Just wondering.
It is a bit of revisionist history to say he went to the press “during” or “going into” a playoff run. He did it after a loss that made it almost mathematically certain we wouldn’t get into the playoffs. It took an incredibly improbable string of results to get us as close as we were. Richetti has always negotiated in the press, which many of us agree is tacky, but he didn’t ask out until it was pretty much settled this team was going nowhere.
Expose him to the expansion draft. Philly will take him, I’m sure.
Stay classy SH
Hopefully SH will be treated EXACTLY how he’s treated everyone else on his way out…probably next year about this time. Same old Dallas…nothing ever really changes…actually everything changes except the losing part.
Another example of exposing business that should be kept internally. Why would you devalue a player that you are interested in moving? Even if you are planning to expose him, aren’t you reducing the value to the point where other teams may not want to take the risk and pick up one of the exposed players you’d rather keep? Just a thought but I must also say that I am dumb.
JC, we dont want to expose him cuz he’ll go fro free to Philly if they draft him. If we can trade him to anyone, including Philly, we’ll at least get something back in draft picks, current players, or transger fee if he goes outside MLS.
Putting a foot in his ass on the way out definitely lowers his value, however, but we’ll still try to get something out of it.
Schellas is an idiot. He’s never won and never will. 30+ years of nothing. What a jack ass. Pablo simply did what most professionals do around the world which is let it be known that he’s available. Sure, some coaches will whine about a club tapping thier player up or they’ll have a falling out about a player tapping up a club(like Robinho’s doing with Barca) but they never turn into a cry baby and then start threatening other players. Most owners would jerk him into their office by his ear and tell him quit devaluing the damn players you don’t want. Well jackass can add me to the list of bad apples that won’t be dealing with his shit next year. I’ve loved FCD for many years but I’m too much of an alpha to support that fool. He’s the first person I’ve ever called that too. Shame on Clark Hunt for ruining his dad’s work. Shame on him.
one other thing,
PABLO GO TO PORTLAND! DITCH THE MLS FOR A SEASON AND GET YOUR CONTRACT BACK! THEN GET REVENGE ON BUS BOY IN 2011.
Seriously, Pablo did not have much value in MLS to start with. He is too old and too slow to play his primary position in MLS, CDM. I doubt Philly would take him if he was exposed in the expansion draft and I doubt we could trade him for any more than a draft pick.
Hate to see it end this way with PR, he was a fun player to watch for fcd, one of my favorites. Many clubs have send off parties for players when they are released or let go (not talking about PR), but again fcd shows their lack of class in how they deal with these guys.
I find it both funny and sad that someone who doesn’t seem to have the first clue how to act as a “professional” coach thinks he’s qualified to judge what he says is the “cardinal sin of the professional athlete.” For whatever Pablo said to the press on that one occasion several weeks ago, Hyndman has now “gone to the press” more than once to openly bash this player and again air the team’s dirty laundry. Clueless, tactless idiot. Good luck getting so much as a bag of balls for Ricchetti now.
I believe this is the second year where SH is creating problems for the front office to get something for a player. Last year it was Dax he wanted to get rid of and his value dropped below what FCD would accept. This year it is going to be PR who’s trade value has dropped becaus of the way SH has handled this.
I’ve told you guys over and over, and I’ll say it again. SH is a COLLEGE COACH who never won the big games in college! He never has been and never will be able to deal with the PRO players. Whatever Pablo did wrong, and I’m sure he is partly culpable, SH didn’t know then, doesn’t know now, and never will know how to handle a player like that, or any other for that matter.
To all of those that are backing SH on this, there is no basis for doing so. If he had won something in his career, fine, but he hasn’t!!! And he had all of Texas to choose players for SMU because it has the only Div. 1 soccer program in the state!!! And he still could not win!!!! Wake up!!!!!!!!!
You guys want a coach who is warm and fuzzy. SH isn’t and no one will care if they go to the playoffs. I watched 10 games this year at PHP. FCD was slooooowwww on defense and that is why they got killed. PR was NOT someone who could run down even my 10 year old.
[...] – No Pablo Ricchetti anymore. Not to rehash, but he’s out for good. [...]
twotone – I know what you’re saying, but at the moment, I’d rather expose Pablo than any other player on the roster that might get drafted by Philly.
hope we keep Pablo in the roster so he can be picked by the philadelphia and not another player…
Rocha’s loan ends right now in December and its 100% sure he wont be back
FCD should trade Ricchetti to move up in allocation order, to make it easy to sign Lee Nguyen. Also, because the roster is relatively deep, if the trade is with Philly, FCD should also get them to agree not to draft any other Dallas players.
Steve… There is no chance FCD could have gotten a deal with Philly that good under the best of circumstances, much less now that Pablo continues to be devalued by the very person trying to get rid of him. Good luck getting anything of value for him now. I would be surprised if they’re able to get anything more than a token late round draft pick.
The thing that amazes me is the way FCD fans turn on one of their own when the coach turns on him. Pablo brought a level of skill to the team that is rare in MLS. He normally played very well. He was asked to play as center back and he did. Did he throw a public fit to stay in his natural position during the twilight of his career? No. He was the captain! He realized that Schellas had no plan for him to return to his position and he saw that the playoffs were not happening so he let his feelings be known. Was it wrong for him to say it through the media? Hell no! His coach attacks his players through the media so why would the media be off limits? I’m sick of of all the dorks that talk about supporting this team but will stab a player in the back as soon as bus boy tells them to.
Shellas and Richetti’s actions should not be judged or measured by the same yardstick. There is a saying that goes “It’s good to be the king.” In organized sports the coach is king. Authority rests with the coach.
I understand the frustration Pablo felt. But going through the media to vent his frustrations undermined his team and his coach, and was very un-captian like IMO. Richetti is not Schellas equal in this equation, and Shellas had a right, nay I say the duty, to put Richetti in his place, which so happens to be no place. God save the king! (At least through the next season.)
marco, I’d agree that Pablo and the #5 allocation for the #1 allocation probably wouldn’t happen. They might come up with a viable deal by throwing in picks and/or a dispensable player and Philly vowed not to pick an exposed FCD player in the expansion draft.
I think most of the damage to Pablo’s trade/transfer value occurred when Pablo made his public statements a month ago. FCD taking the approach Hyndman outlined here seemed a foregone conclusion.
seventhrow – the thing about Pablo moving to CB is he simply wasn’t able to play CDM any more. Pablo is a great guy, I’ve spoken with him many times, but he is slowing down and no longer has the range to play CDM in the formation FCD uses. As a CB he was serviceable and provided leadership, but really he was behind both John and Davies (and Ugo) at that position. Look at how our defense improved without Pablo in the lineup. I appreciate his efforts over the past couple of years, but I don’t think he is a MLS starter anymore. Perhaps a backup for another team.
And yes it was wrong for Pablo to go to the media especially at the time he did it. He attempted to derail the team at a point where they had come together, were playing well and making a push for the playoffs. As a fan, I cannot condone him doing that and I think Pablo now regrets his timing.
Pablo was insulted by the way they threw out Drew Moor like he was trash. For all those who say we did not want him…that is BS. We wanted him every minute of every game until he fired us. The Drew Moor thing made him ashamed to be a part of FCD. Me too.
You got to be kidding! Threw Drew Moor out like trash? That turned out to be a very good trade. Ugo and John/Davies solidifed our defense and made Pablo expendable. Perhaps his poor actions were because he saw the handwriting on the wall – he was now a bench player.
I hope Pablo finds a job somewhere, but I am not sure he still has the range and pace to be a starter in MLS.
I agree with Kevin…Drew was wronged by the club! I don’t know what to expect next season? I was told by my brother that the deadline for renewing season tickets is November 2….I have been a season ticket holder for around 8 years and nobody at FCD has even bothered to contact me!!!
