Are you certain that the analysis on the FCD blog link you posted is accurate? They are claiming it all depends on goal differential if Dallas wins along with other teams, but I thought it was head-to-head and DC United has us beat on that critieria, yes?
I am certain that the first criteria for teams of equal points was head-to-head results, and second was goal differential!!
FROM MLSNET….
” In the event that two teams finish the regular season with an equal number of points, the following system will be used to break the tie:
FIRST. The highest position shall be awarded to the team with the better win/loss record in current regular season games against all other teams equal in points. (head-to-head competition)
SECOND. If the teams are still equal in the standings, the highest position shall be awarded to the team with the greater goal difference against all other teams during the regular season. (goal differential).”

Can you please verify that FCD’s assessment is accurate? Am I not correct in assuming that DC United has us beat head-to-head? I hope I am missing something here!
Everything they posted on the blog has to do with 3,4 and 5-way ties. Doesn’t seem like much is head to head. Yes, we don’t win head to head with DC, but we’re beating almost everyone with goal differential (which boggles my mind).
Robert: FCD Blog is correct that goal dif comes into play. But when they say we are waiting on goal differential, we are talking about the highly unlikely possibility that TFC wins by 9 goals or NE wins by 10.
Again, we advance if we win and DC fails to take the full 3 OR
The resulting tie at 42 points is not:
DAL-DC-TOR-NE
DAL-DC-NE
DAL-DC
Guys,
I think I’ve worked it out on my preview of today’s action – http://www.prostamerika.com/so...24/mls-super-saturday-preview/
You’ll advance if you win today UNLESS
1) DC and Colorado both win, and neither of New England or Toronto do.
All four of these would have to go wrong for you. NE play tomorrow so if you win, the worst that can happen is needing them to win tomorrow, to change the breaker from H2H v DC to group GD.
I think I am correct in saying that if Toronto win in NY, you cannot be eliminated if you beat Seattle (unless they win by a daft amount).
Ok, off to watch the game. It’s cloudy but dry here, and we expect quite a few goals.
