One Game: One Goal
October 13th, 2009 . 12:13 pm . By: Buzz CarrickIn video form, FCD tells off everyone who wrote them off. I like it. I’m even one of those people. (Which we’ll get back to). There was no way in heck FCD should have a shot at the playoffs. But they do. And this game is now massive. The reality is the “playoffs” start Saturday vs Colorado. 21 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

I was one of those people who counted them out back at the Season Ticket Holder meeting back in June.

I’m perfectly willing to eat a little crow and be proven wrong. The team we have now is drastically different than the team we had back in June, I’m not even talking performance wise. We have a lot of new players but I’m okay with being proven wrong.
In case anyone cares, here’s the tiebreakers against various teams. Tiebreaker 1 is Head to Head Pts [FCD Pts - Opp Pts], Tiebreaker 2 is Goal Differential [positive number is FCD advantage, negative is Opp advantage] :
No Tan Bueno:
DC United holds HH advantage (1-4 pts)
Colorado currently holds HH advantage, but will be tied if Dallas wins out (4-4). Colorado currently has a likely insurmountable 5 goal advantage in goal diff.
El Camino:
Chicago and RSL are both tied on HH with FCD at (3-3). Both currently lead FCD by a single goal in goal diff. FCD has a good chance to pass both if it wins out.
El Bueno:
Assuming Dallas wins out, we will have a HH advantage over Seattle (4-1).
We already have HH advantage over Toronto (4-1).
We are tied with both New England and KC in HH, but hold rock solid advantage in Goal Diff (+8 on New England, and +11 on Kansas City)
The above assumes a tie with only one other team on pts. Apparently, in the case where more than one team is tied, the head to head points must be calculated on total pts between all tied teams.
Therefore, in the mathematically possible case that DC, Seattle, Toronto and FCD all end up with 42 points, Dallas and Seattle go through with 9 points in HH matches between all 4 teams. Toronto and C would be tied with 6 points each in HH, but DC would go through based on a current 3 goal advantage in Goal Diff over Toronto.
I just really started following FCD recently, but it is amazing when a coach is hired and the FO lets himchange the team to his liking. It is coming together.
I don’t like it. It’s and F-U to the fans. Haven’t we had enough of that?
If someone is going to be a constantly negative “fan,” I think they deserve a little F-U when they’re proven wrong.
Far those of us that don’t want to bog ourselves down with the details of tiebreakers, Sports Club Stats now says FCD is 98.8% for the playoffs with 2 wins:

Revolution and DC losses this weekend would be the most helpful to the percentages.
Considering he was answering me in two of his quotes, I’ll be happy to eat a little crow for SH.
I was wrong. They were not mathematically eliminated, and have done well to play for this year. Color me impressed with the heart of the team when I was done.
I don’t think the fans were proven wrong at all. The fans wanted FCD to win. The fans didn’t think FCD was putting enough MLS quality players on the field and that the coach might not always have played the best players (Rocha anyone).
Now the dramatic changes in the team have luckily resulted in a group of players who seem to care, have some chemistry, and are on a roll.
I, for one, was indicating that all moves that FCD made should be geared to making them better next year. Which they did. The fact that they still have a chance this year is incidental.
Now, if they had stuck with the same players and turned it around, then they could tweak our noses. But they didn’t; I’m betting they’re as surprised as anyone that we’re still in it. After all, when things were bleak in July they didn’t say, don’t worry we have plan to fix this and we’ll be in the hunt by the end of the year.
They didn’t say here’s our plan: let Cooper walk, trade Moor, bench Richetti. Trust us this will all be good for FCD this year!
So if they do all of this smack talk directed at fans and then lose, what are they going to say then?
I have been there all year, and I have seen the complete lack of effort over and over. So now the effort is there. But if they aren’t able to come up with the needed results (and I put the chances in a low percentage), how are they going to make that up to us? I hope we don’t come to that, but the chances are good that it will.
Pessimistic? Maybe. Realistic? Definitely.
GREAT VIDEO!
FCD is playing the best soccer I have seen this team play (and finally getting the corresponding results). FCD has won three straight games. Sala is playing as if he is tapped into matrix. Cunningham can’t be stopped. Ferreira and Dax work harder than anyone in the league, game in, game out. John and Ihemelu are capable of dominating the opposition’s fwds (can’t wait to see John v. Casey). FC Dazzle has transformed into one of the most dangerous teams in the league and has a very real shot at making the playoffs with only two games to go. Saturday is all or nothing game. As a fan, what more should you realistically ask for?
“The reality is the “playoffs” start Saturday vs Colorado.”
I think this is the scariest statement in this post… I’ve seen a couple of time what the hated C’Rapids do to my beloved FCD in the playoffs…
Why would you possibly be offended by this?
I am happy for the players but I still want Hyndman to go far away. I also think the ownership/front office have done enough to push fans away and that this video can be seen in a negative light. No matter what you should never say F.U. to the fans.
Good luck to the players, the rest of the organization can continue to fail unless they fire Hyndman.
Jeebus some of y’all are really going out of your way to be offended. The club said FU to George Best? Puhleeze.
Right now I don’t think we’re bringing home the cup, but I’m having fun on the current ride – maybe we can sneak up on someone in the playoffs – maybe Houston and wouldn’t that be sweet.
So let the real fans have our fun and take your pity party back to espn radio with all the other Cowboy fans.
I made my earlier comments at work yesterday, where the video was blocked. Now that I’ve seen it, I’m with Barefoot:
How does someone get offended by this video? It’s well done advertising, but doesn’t seem incendiary at all.
Okay, George Best has an incredibly thin skin. Duly noted, and I apologize in advance to him if my loud and enthusiastic cheering are seen as “rubbing in” the fact that SH has assembled a winning team. Did it take him too long to do this? We will find out during the last two games.
Just FYI, as a fan, I was willing to consider our fine 1-0 win over Houston to be our cellar-dweller version of the MLS Cup (read “consolation prize”) but those days are long gone.
Now is the time to root the men toward the post-season.
Now is the time for FCD to show a little swagger and to assert some confidence. They have to believe firmly that they not only CAN crush the Rapids….but WILL do so.
Even if they lose on Saturday, I am damn proud of what they accomplished. They could have given up, started Shea and Peri as forwards and Lambo on goal as so many of the Debbie Downers demanded, but they decided to play for the brass ring, and you know….THEY WERE RIGHT, THEY NAYSAYERS WERE WRONG.
Sorry for bruising delicate egos along the way!
I know we are mathematically alive, but when that town hall meeting was held back in June we were second to last in the table. On October 15th 2009 at 12:25am we are still second to last in the table.
There is hope for this team in the future and maybe if we are lucky and get some help we can make the playoffs this year. But there should be no “I told you so” message from SH the Hunts or Hitchcock. And I know they probably didn’t make this video, but I guarantee you they have to sign off and it and approve it.
Good for you people who are admitting you are “wrong” and that we have a chance. But nothing has changed we are in the same position we were in back in June, and still have issues within the team no doubt about it.
Giving the fans a big middle finger and saying we told you so, isn’t the way to gain fans and certainly not a way to bolster spirit. This in my opinion is just creating a bigger line in the sand between management and the supporters.
Colorado is fighting for a playoff spot as well, and make no mistake they will come to PHP to play this weekend, and so will Drew Moor. I suggest everyone give Drew a huge welcome home and a standing ovation, and even a chant of his name because the guy deserves it. And I think that in itself will give a big middle finger right back at SH, the Hunts, and Hitch. God Bless.
Actually, in the table that counts, the single table, the playoff table we are now ahead of 3 teams and tied with 2 others. Back in June we were 2nd to last in this most important, single table.
On Moor I respect Drew and AFTER the game I will applaude his effort, but until the final whistle he is the enemy. The standing ovation will be for the FCD team and staff that has made the playoffs a possibility.
Too much complaining.
Re: Sam,
“God Bless.” Really? Perhaps with a big middle fingrer? God loves Hyndman. Why can’t you?
