Shea Being Tracked

October 6th, 2009 . 1:30 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

I predicted before that Brek Shea would be sold post U20 Worlds.  Today the first link surfaced with a possible 2 mil euros move to Fulham.

I don’t know if this move is real or not, but this is the first of several links I expect to surface in the next month or so. I fully expect Shea’s sale this winter.

This is rumored to be at 2 mil pounds – a little more than 2 mil euros.

right into the fat pockets of HSG and not to bolster the squad for 2010.

I am pretty sure SH would let him go – no ties to SMU nor does he plan on taking any summer classes during the winter break.

Seriously though…we need to keep him and his size. He has remarkable potential!!!

I don’t know that Shea really has that much soccer potential. He was supposed to be the star of the U20 team but he didn’t do much.

Read Jen Cheng’s take on Shea at ESPN Soccernet:

“As for Shea, perhaps I’m being a bit harsh given his age, but he still appears to be little more than a size-speed-strength prospect, the NFL draft prospect equivalent of a combine workout warrior with no instincts — which is pretty much what he appeared to be when I first saw him at Bradenton back in 2006. The fact that U.S. coaches are still trying to develop him as some kind of attacking midfield/winger/forward and seem oblivious to his lack of technical skill or composure in the final third is mind-boggling to me. In my opinion, Shea’s best (perhaps only) shot at any semblance of an effective pro career is to move to center back, or perhaps even left back. Then again, we’re talking about Rongen here, who somehow deemed Neven Subotic not good enough to make the ‘07 U.S. U-20 squad and built the U.S. attack around Shea for this tournament, so perhaps nothing should surprise me at this point.”

I agree Rick_S. A pro. stricker with 1 real goal…EVER..this would shock me.

It would be a shame to see h im go! Hopefully SH will be smart to keep him!

$2 mill pounds is approx $4 mill dollars. HSG would be stupid to turn down an offer like that at this point.

Shea = half the Denilson money back. Worth the sacrifice?

I think once Shea moves to a Euro club he will moved to the backline where he will realize his true potential.

I’d hate to see him go, but I think a move to Fulham at that price is a win/win for both him and FC Dizzle.

Great move if it happens. Sell him.

Shocking anyone would pay for this guy after the U20’s WC….sell him quick before they change their mind.

  13. Comment by Chase on October 6, 2009 7:06 PM

I agree with Justin . . If we can get 2 mil+ for him after his showing at the World – do it immediately

could be a great move but I think they will get him for cheaper if they want. 2 mil sounds high for shea right now. I hope he ends up in Europe and can be put in a position to succed.

Jozy sold for $10million right? Brek could got for $4million even though he’s not done anything significant. He’s got the talent that can be developed given the right group of coaches. I’d like to see him go to Everton or West Ham, or maybe somewhere like Eintrecht or Hannover.

losing brek would be bitter-sweet IMO. that’s a lot of money to turn down, and he seems to be playing behind DVB anyways. w/ the new addition of marvin the martian chavez and the good form david is in, he may not play much anyways. maybe that’s why SH picked up marvin to begin w/ knowing brek isn’t here for long.

  17. Comment by Steve on October 7, 2009 11:25 AM

I’d see the loss of Brek as bittersweet, too, but we’re talking about a transfer fee close to the one they got for Cooper! 2 million pounds as roughly equal to $3.2 mill at current exchange rates.

If someone offers that much you have to wish Brek well, and hope that he lands at a club that will help him fulfill his potential.

    Sell him.

    Buy Low, Sell High.

    Cost 1st round draft pick.

    Gain….

  20. Comment by pony2 on October 7, 2009 12:28 PM

how does he qualify for a euro work permit?

  21. Comment by Tinsley's Big Drink on October 10, 2009 8:43 AM

I would hate to see him go…however, if it’s to Fulham, I’m all for it. If it wasn’t for Cunningham’s stellar performance this year, I believe given playing time this could have been a breakout season for Shea. I’m not sure that the London locals could handle 2 East Texan’s at the Cottage!
