The expansion draft for the 2010 Philadelphia Union will almost certainly take place on the Friday following MLS Cup. There will be a window that week to make trades then a freeze one day before the expansion draft. Since the 2009 season is over for FCD it makes sense to now look at who might get protected.
FCD will be looking to add to their side this winter, and which direction they look to go will depend a great deal on one question: Can they re-sign Dax McCarty? McCarty, by any almost measure, had a terrific season and is the one major piece of the current FCD player puzzle that is out of contract.

I went out to training yesterday, but there was so much news to put on the site I held off doing this report till today. It was a touch on the cold side starting out training, but by the end of the session it was beautiful. It’s a long session today and the players seem in a positive frame of mind. I can’t help but they they must also feel better about the future. It sounds like FCD will be training this week and next at least.

FC Dallas will not be renewing the contract of General Manager Michael Hitchcock. Clark Hunt today sent a letter to season ticket holders announcing the change. In the letter Clark lays out the plan to replace Hitchcock, which includes President John Wagner officially taking over full control operations, as he had already taken over unofficially. In addition FCD will look to hire a Technical Director to assist Schellas Hyndman.
This looks like a terrific event for the young soccer players out there.
FC Dallas has moved on from Pablo Ricchetti and the one-time captain will no longer be training with the team. While FC Dallas has not waived Ricchetti, the coach has cut ties and informed the player he is not wanted in Dallas anymore. Everything we do right now is trying to get better,” Said Hyndman. “What is better? For next year. Right now he’s not a part of next year. So I met with him yesterday and just let him know what we were thinking.”
One of the best ways to pass the long MLS off-season is returning to PHP. That’s right, it’s InterLiga 2010. Just about the time I start to go through high level soccer withdrawals, InterLiga comes to town to help fill the void. This year InterLiga will take place from January 2nd to the 12th, with game at Pizza Hut Park on Sunday, Jan. 3 and Tuesday, Jan. 5. The exact teams that will play at PHP has yet to be announced.
