The Son of the Wind should arrive in Dallas today.
Apparently the former SMU midfielder is the newest FCD acquition.
Monday’s announcement that FC Dallas’ longest-tenured player, Drew Moor, had been shipped off to Colorado was jarring to say the least. Now the Dallas native is not one of the top defenders in the league and has never been an all-star, but Moor’s veteran leadership and respect he commanded from his teammates will be hard if not impossible to replace. It remains to be seen whether or not Ugo Ihemelu will be an upgrade over Drew at right back, but let’s give him the benefit of the doubt. Still, there are a few miscellaneous aspects of this trade to consider and here they are.
Drew Moor is heading to Colorado tomorrow, but was nice enough to give us some time on the phone today for a conversation. It’s been a long run for me watching Drew Moor, starting back at Indiana at the final four… or maybe even Dallas Cup without knowing it. Then scouting him at the combine, running into Drew and his father the night before the SuperDraft at a bar where I was eating dinner, chatting with him the next night after being picked. Then through the ups and down of a career at FCD that included several coaching and positional changes. Through it all Moor has been a class act and a consummate professional. He was always willing to talk on and off the record.
If it seems like the biggest change Schellas Hyndman has made since taking the reigns of our fair club last June was the ever-revolving door installed on the locker room, you’re absolutely right. Here is a quick look at the current members of the team so you can keep up at home, divided according to whether or not they came here under Schellas or not. A list of FCD expatriates is also included for posterity’s sake.
Steve Hunt got a hold of Moor and has some quotes from the ex-FCD defender.
The Rapids Undercurrent, has a new post with some stuff from coach Gary Smith with a bunch more on Ihemelu and Moor.
The following quote comes from FCD training Monday.
Lost in the hullabaloo of the Drew Moor trade was a nice light hearted pieace by Steve Hunt about Pablo Ricchetti’s new haircut.
Rapids Head Coach Gary Smith says FCD gave up “a considerable amount of allocation money and a pick” to get Ugo Ihemelu.
