Good Work

September 23rd, 2009 . 1:31 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

FCD is taking a lot of heat these days, but one group I think is doing solid work is the FC Dallas Foundation.

One of my favorite bits, the Community Clinic Series, continues this week with a session today at Liberty Junior High in Dallas.  Full credit to Oscar Pareja who’s now in the 4th year of leading these events.  Ok so short notice on the most recent one, but still a great event and series.

The Summer Santa Toy Drive sounds like a great one, taking toys to kids in hospitals.  The Pablo Ricchetti Jersey Raffle I for one will be getting in on.  How much is 100 tickets?  Casino Night I hear is a blast.

There’s also a recap of the “Shop with a Player” at Dick’s Sporting Goods that I bet many adults are jealous of.

Keep up the good work guys.

P.S. don’t under sell the involvement of Pablo Ricchetti in many of these FCD Foundation efforts.  Applause to Pablo.

Here’s a PR bit from the team on the FCD Foundation work coming up.

FC DALLAS IN THE COMMUNITY: SEPTEMBER 23

FRISCO, Texas (Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009) – FC Dallas in the Community provides information on the FC Dallas Foundation and community relations activities for the coming week.

COMMUNITY CLINIC SERIES

The FC Dallas Foundation Community Clinic Series will host its fifth clinic of 2009, today at Liberty Junior High School (10330 Lawler, Dallas, TX 75243). The clinic begins at 3:30 p.m. CT and the FC Dallas players scheduled to attend are: Ray Burse, Daniel Hernandez, Eric Avila, Blake Wagner, Ugo Ihemelu and Daniel Torres.

The series of clinics, in its fourth year, is led by FC Dallas Juniors head coach Oscar Pareja. Working in conjunction with the Dallas-based Communities in Schools, the clinic provides free soccer lessons to local youth organizations as well as equipment and soccer balls donated by Hunt4Soccer.

SUMMER SANTA TOY DRIVE

The FC Dallas Foundation will host a Summer Santa toy drive during Saturday’s game against Real Salt Lake at Pizza Hut Park. Fans who bring a new, unwrapped toy to any gate of entry will receive an autographed Pablo Ricchetti poster and a buy-one-get-one-free ticket voucher to the Oct. 17 game against the Colorado Rapids. All donated toys will be distributed to children at local hospitals by FC Dallas players and staff.

PABLO RICCHETTI’S JERSEY RAFFLE

FC Dallas Captain Pablo Ricchetti is raising funds for the Frisco Miracle League. Throughout the season, Ricchetti has collected game-worn jerseys from the top players in MLS and abroad to support the Miracle League. Fans can enter to win any of the jerseys by purchasing raffle tickets at any FC Dallas home game, the Soccer City store in Frisco or through the Frisco Soccer Association. All proceeds from the raffle will directly benefit the Frisco Miracle League. For more information, visit FCDallasFoundation.org.

“COCKTAILS AND CLEATS” CASINO NIGHT

Mark your calendars for the “Cocktails and Cleats” Casino Night benefiting the FC Dallas Foundation on Oct. 3. This year’s event features a cleat decorating contest fashion show and traditional casino games. FC Dallas players and coaches will be in attendance. For tickets, please visit FCDallasFoundation.org.

“SHOP WITH A PLAYER” RECAP

Earlier this month, the FC Dallas Foundation and Dick’s Sporting Goods hosted “Shop with a Player” at Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Stonebriar Mall in Frisco. More than 30 children from the Nelson Children’s Center, Frisco Education Foundation, Wesley Rankin Community Center and Richardson YMCA were provided dinner donated by Jason’s Deli and a $100 gift card from Dick’s Sporting Goods.

FC Dallas players Brek Shea, Eric Avila, Blake Wagner and Ray Burse joined the kids for dinner and then took them shopping around the store. To view pictures from this event, visit FCDallasFoundation.org.
