Sala the American Patriot
September 12th, 2009 . 12:50 pm . By: Buzz CarrickI wanted to share a little story from Friday. At FCD training I joked to Dario that he needed to call Diego Maradona on the phone to help him staighten out the Argentine National Team. Sala’s replay was, “I’m an American, I have an American wife and an American daughter. I’m worried about us getting out of CONCACAF.” I have no idea if Dario is aware it was 9/11 or not, but I found it the perfect little anecdote of the American way of life and philosophy of acceptance we have here. Certainly I can’t speak for Sala, but I can’t tell you the number of players that have come here from foreign countries, brought their families, settled here, and embrace this country completely. Oscar Pareja springs to mind as another example, and I know there are quite a few more. In light of the date I thought it worth passing along. 9 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

Stuff like that is always good to hear. Thanks.
Way to go Dario. I too came here from another country and love the USA with all my heart…. although I will still cheer England during the world cup LOL!
I love the mentality. Come to America and become a citizen. You become apart of our Country. GO Dario!!!!!!
Thanks for passing that along. It makes sense and shows how committed Sala is to MLS. The better the USMNT does the better the entire league looks. Sala is a stand-up guy and he continues to be one of my favorite players to ever fight for the shirt.
My heart swells with pride.
Though I wouldn’t fault Sala at all for continuing to support Argentina, this is an awesome story to read, at a time when too many people in this country, who were actually born here and have lived here all their lives, support the national teams of others.
Hey crotchfat who cares if you where born here and cheer for another national team its a f**king game I hate hearing all the bitching you usmnt supporters do about the subject get over it already
Thanks for sharing this Buzz. Great story. Super Dario seems just as cool off the field as he does on. Gotta like somebody that appreciates the opportunities they’ve been given in life.
Great Story Buzz!!!
