FC DALLAS SIGNS HEATH PEARCE VIA ALLOCATIONFRISCO, Texas (Friday, Sept. 11, 2009) – FC Dallas General Manager Michael Hitchcock announced today that the team has signed U.S. National Team defender Heath Pearce via its #1 allocation ranking. Pearce will be added to the senior roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC). To make room for Pearce on the 24-man roster, FC Dallas waived defender Steve Purdy. “Heath is a high quality player who can play a lot of different positions, and we are very excited to welcome him to the club,” FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman said. “We are really focusing on making our team stronger defensively, and Heath is a hard worker who can help us in that regard.” Pearce began his professional career in 2005 with FC Nordsjælland of the Danish Superliga. In his second season with FC Nordsjælland, Pearce helped the club to a fifth place finish, its highest position since being promoted in 2003. In 2007, Pearce signed with Hansa Rostock of the Bundesliga where he appeared in 31 games. The 25-year-old Pearce has been a main stay on the U. S. National Team since 2005 earning 28 caps and recording one assist. Pearce’s seven appearances in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers were the most of any U.S. player in 2008. Pearce attended the University of Portland where he was an All-West Coast Conference honorable mention selection. He also is an alumnus of the U.S. Soccer Residency Program in Bradenton, Fla. where he played for current FC Dallas assistant coach John Ellinger. It was also announced today that the club and forward/midfielder Alvaro “Tom” Sanchez have mutually agreed to end his contract with FC Dallas. Sanchez was signed by FC Dallas on April 3 and appeared in three games this season. As has been under discussion for some time on this site, FC Dallas has signed Heath Pearce via Allocation. FCD waived Steve Purdy to make room for Heath Pearce. Also buried in the press release is the fact FCD has terminated the contract of Alvaro Sanchez. Pearce had agrees to terms with Trukish club Bursaspor but the deal fell apart at the dealine.
Meh.
5′10″! Addition of much-needed height!
What is he gonna play CB?? MF?? Jair has been a revelation and we just gave uo the face of the franchise for Ugo . . . I don’t get it. If he does play CB, then at least Richetti can move back to DMF and give some height to the spine of the team.
better than letting the allocation go unused. If he can’t earn a starting spot we can always trade him…
Wasn’t Purdy “the best defender in the preseason”? Why not trade Torres?
I think this is a good move. Luck of the draw left them with few returning players via allocation. As Jonesing said, better to use it than lose it.
Also, the backline pieces can be put together now and be ready for a full run next year. Has Pearce played in the middle?
Anyway, add the pieces and see what happens. At least they are bringing in players…
I don’t get it. He never played for SMU….
George John is next……
I agree with Jason – why not release Torres – I though Purdy had (some) potential whereas Torres has none.
Torres is John Ellinger’s RSL love child. So it’s obvious that SH & JE would prefer Torres over Purdy.
I think the amount of PT Purdy got after the first few weeks tells you someting about where he was in the order.
On balance these changes look good. Jair, Chavez, Pearce, Henandez, Harris, & Ihemelu.
These are all older more experienced players. Our back line could be something like:
Jair-Pearce-Hernandez-Ihemelu
John instead of Hernandez is a possibiltiy, but John is inexperienced & hur a lot. FCD needs to settle things down in back. Heck, I’d take a few 0-0 draws if it would mean a few games where we don’t allow a goal. We’ve been a Swiss cheese defense for too long.
I’m excited about the possibilty of Chavez & David F. combining in the midfield.
The only question in my mind is can SH get these guys to perform as a cohesive unit – that is his job.
I do not get it. you pick up two left backs in a month. Which one are you going to play and where is the other playing. Something should be up with this as in another trade for an SMU player?
Now we know why Moor was traded. I bet he plays on the right in place of Moor
Part of his contract states he has to complete 3 credit hours at SMU before he plays next season.
Hopefully he’ll do more on a club level than he’s done on the Nat team. He’s looked very average, at best….. I guess at this point he’s going to be the only player to use the allocation on, and I suppose this will allow Richetti to play midfield again, but this move doesn’t do much for me. They still need to pick up a premier level guy to get this team to where it needs to be AND get people in the stands.
Isn’t Jair only on loan? In the short term having them both makes no sense, but past that, at least he can start to find his feet before 2010.
Bob:
Ives beat you to the 3 credit / SMU joke.
i guess this would ease the loss of drew moor a bit. SH wanted speed…he’s added speed. SH wanted playmakers…he’s hopefully got them w/ chavez and david. his goal was to shore up the backlline…appears to be headed that way. so what’s still the problem…still can’t win.
jair, ugo, atiba, heath, chavez…possibly 1/2 of the starting XI upcoming. truly musical chairs type of organization
Pearce falls into our lap at exactly the wrong time. What a world. Can Pearce be traded, Buzz?
We have added good players I will say that but the thing is the team isn’t playing any better. That all falls on the coach.
this team doesnt know each other to really be playing better. they are akin to an amateur squad picking up players to play in a summer league. nobody knows the style of play and its tough to get a read on somone in a few weeks. Besides, SH wants them to play like robots (like his SMU teams) and that just doesnt work in the pros.
Apart from the implosion at NY, we really have been playing better. Sure the results haven’t been what we wanted but we have looked like a force out there. This pick up is a smart one and gives us the added depth needed going forward. I was less shocked by releasing Purdy and not surprised at all by the termination of Sanchez.
I am looking forward to seeing how Chavez can add to Ferreira’s attack and what it does for JC9. We really do have some good things going on!!!

We have awen how Benitez and Ihemilu like to get forward ans i beleive we have a well put together back thurd now. We really do have some good things going on!!!
JC, yes he can be traded.
Darn you Ives!!
How do we make all this work with the salary cap.. I’m sure Heath didn’t come over for anything less than 200k..
JC is 200k +, so is VDB.
I haven’t seen numbers for Ferreira, Chavez or Benitez, but I don’t think they were cheap either.
I realize that some of these guys don’t count full… but I’m thinking that for next year it would be a tight squeeze.
Any idea where we are on cap Buzz? There’s been a lot of movement.
FCD should be fine on cap. Pearce’s deal will be prorated over the short stretch of the season, plus bought down by allocation.
Purdy was the starting center defender in the preseason and worked well with Sala, but disjointed with Burse, then he was severely injured. He has been injured the entire season since the first Chivas match. He has not been medically cleared.
I think Pearce is going to do a wonderful job he’s really fast and is a good runner
