Daniel Hernandez Signed

September 3rd, 2009 . 9:53 am . By: Buzz Carrick

Apparently the former SMU midfielder is the newest FCD acquisition.

According to multiple season ticket holders, Daniel Hernandez, who has been training with the team for several weeks to regain fitness, introduced himself Wednesday night at a season ticket holder function as being FC Dallas’ newest signing.  He also told people he will wear #2.  No announcement of the signing has been made by FC Dallas.

Previously Hyndman had indicated Hernandez was preparing for a return to soccer in Mexico, where he has played on and off, but did say Hernandez might be a option.  Hernandez has also had several stints in MLS.

This almost certainly means Alvaro Sanchez will be placed on season ending injured reserve.  With Heath Pearce signing in Turky in preference to MLS and FCD, it should come as no surprise to many this move is going down.

    Buzz,

any chance in your opinion that FCD gets to use or trade their top allocation on this kid or anyone?

US20 players usually are signed by the league and placed in a weighted lottery (like Kyle Davies was). In which case FCD having a bad record over the last 30 games would have a high percentage chance of landing the player.

But as we saw from the Davies lottery, he could end up anywhere.

Next, let’s replace the Inferno with the SMU Marching Band!

After reading the Yanksabroad article. It seems like he has some deals that are based in europe. Not Likely to see the kid come back to MLS.

On Hernandez we can use a healty central defender. So maybe this help out.

What could be wrong about bringing in all of these ex-SMU players? After all, they had great success winning national championships here in Dallas….er, nevermind.

Maybe SH thinks that if we don’t get in the playoffs that we can make a deep run in the NCAA tournament this year.

This manager is an effin’ joke! Come on Hitchcock, quit so we can get a GM in who will hire us a decent PROFESSIONAL coach who won’t be waxing the poles of all his ex college players!

Hitch didn’t hire schellas, the hunts did. I think we need a big sign for this weekends game that says “THIS ISN’T SMU”

Or embrace it! I like the marching band idea. And as long as we don’t mind losing, we could try to create a college football environment. We’ve got the cheerleaders; what else is there? Cowbells, tailgating. Get into the experience!

Forget that he played at SMU ages ago, I think he is a decent signing at this point. Probably only for the rest of the season with a team option for next season. He has good experience and if he’s fit he can help the backline.

having played against this guy for years, I can tell you he is the best SMU has ever produced, and a truly prodigious talent.

But I’m 33 and broke down. He is to him not being so.
