The following quote comes from FCD training Monday. It sums up what most people were thinking at the time, notably the leadership and off field importance of Drew Moor.
“I think it was all shocking. I saw him this morning ready to go and all of a sudden, we get the news. I think it was shocking to me because he’s such a leader and a big part of the team. I always saw him as never leaving Dallas. He’s the heart of Dallas, the face of Dallas and a captain as well. Him leaving is shocking. It could be good for the team or not but he was a great person. He was good guy to me and the team. I’m going to miss him very much, especially with the leadership that he had and always fighting for the jersey. I think that’s Drew Moor.” – Eric Avila

Eric may hear from the bus driver for this one.
I hope he does, then he can get traded off the sinking ship as well.
I am SHOCKED (or maybe I’m not shocked) that SH and the FCD would treated a player of Drew’s tenure this way. Whether or not Ihemelu is better than Drew is beside the point for me — it just seems like a HUGE amount of disrespect for the players, and especially to Dreww, if this was not discussed with him prior to it happening. SH has every right to trade players — but he could at LEAST let them know that it might happen. So . . DID Drew know it might happen for being told to pack his bags?
I would be very interested to hear from Drew as to how he feels about all this. Whether or not the new guy is a better fit for FCD remains to be seen, but I question the validity of a trade like this, of such a team leader, during this time of the season where playoffs are so much on everyne’s mind. The over payment for this ex SMU player makes me think the Bus Driver just pulled into an interstate rest stop for some light relief… and got it royally!
Sounds like he didn’t know it was coming
Reports are that FCD has been shopping Moor for some time so I am sure Drew had an idea something was going to happen soon. Obviously they would not tell his FCD team mates beforehand, so Avi’s surprise is not surprising. It would be disrepectful to Moor to tell the whole team “we are looking to trade Moor” before a deal is done.
I don’t understand why so many people want to go jumping to conclusions without any knowledge of the situation.
That’s why I was asking for more info …the information supplied to date suggests it was a surprise, but if he knew , it was a possibility, then that’s a bit different. But the wisdom of the trade still remains to be seen.
This season is done and I am actually hoping FCD loses a lot of their upcoming games for 1) a coaching change and 2) better draft picks . . . Avi needs more PT
“the information supplied to date suggests it was a surprise”
What information was that? I have yet to see anything from Drew about the trade. Are you basing your statement on the fact that it was a surprise to Avi?
No. On the article here on 3rd Degree that said: “Moor was at Pizza Hut Park in the locker room getting ready for training when told he was heading north.”
Excuse me for trying to understand the situation before I overreact.
I’m not there to know what was said previously to Drew — I’m just a fan trying to understand how and why this happened — why Bus Coach thinks a lateral trade is worth a “considerable amount of money” (source: quotes from Colorado Coach). And why trade one of the BETTER defenders? I KNOW why Bus Coach wanted U.I. — he’s a former SMU player, so he knows the system (like Bruno Guarda).
SH has every right to make the trades he wants to. But I also feel that Drew deserves a bit of respect for the role he has played over the past 4+ years, and I want to know that he got that, at the very least. That would be the professional thing for SH and the Front Office to do.
P.S. Quote from Drew:“It was very much out of left field,” Moor said. “It was kind of a shock. Things were pretty normal when I showed up for training. Before I got out on the field, coach had me in his office and let me know what was going on and stuff. It was pretty all of a sudden.”
So, I’d say it was a surprise.
jonesing, get a life bro
I guess when Drew chose Indiana over SMU, Schellas held a grudge.
Let’s not forget that Ug’s played in Dallas and provides the back line some athleticism.
It is part of the business, players get traded in EVERY sport and most don’t know when it is going to happen until it happens.
Moor don’t seem worried about it so I don’t see why anyone here should be either.
too late hutchtx you overacted on your first post – trades are parts of sports and players know that going into the business.
Well, as a fan, I’m allowed to overreact, if I want to.
Also — if you’ve read the interview — Drew is quite disappointed and confirms everything I’ve thought about Bus Coach. He is over his head and has no clue about coaching a professional team. He has suffocated any creativity within the team and restricted the team spirit.
But, at least Drew is on a “team headed in the right direction.”
The loss of Drew and Kenny is a knife in the heart of this team. We had two excellent players, good citizens of the soocer community, nationally recognized, appreciative of the fans and appreciated BY the fans, excellent role models for the kids… two guys from Dallas who did more than was asked of them and put their heart into every game and loved being here. Now both gone within a month. I am sorry for the team, but I will not be in the stands to watch it suffer. Bye Bye
