Schumacher Linked to FCD

August 28th, 2009 . 5:26 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

SK Austria Kärnten says they are in competition with FC Dallas to sign the Brazilian Stiker.

Schumacher, real name Thiago Maier dos Santos, is out of Atlético Paranaense (there’s that connection again) currently on loan from Udinese to SK Austria Kärnten.    SKAK says they are trying to sign him to a three year deal but they have competition from FC Dallas.

Here’s Schumacher in action for SK Austria Kärnten.

From the video, I’d say he looks like a big, strong target striker type.  That would fit the Hyndman high striker/withdrawn striker form.

Not a ton of goals there. Upgraded version of Nate Jaqua? Kind of slow, nice foot skill, not a lot of goals.

Of course it’s only an 8 minute video, but I agree with Buzz’ assessment. You know who he reminds me of… Kenny Cooper. He’s 6′3″ has a build and head similar to Cooper’s. He’s good with his feet. He’s only 23.

He doesn’t have as good touch, shot, or finishing ability as Cooper (who does), but he plays like a Target striker, holds the ball well, combines with others well. What more could an MLS team ask for?

Looks like he hustles, can be effective with his head in the box, has some good instinct and creativity, and plays team ball. Doesn’t look to be a large-impact coup, but in Toja-Montero vein, but certainly worth a look at his age.

Didn’t mean to include “but” in the Toja-Montero sentence. He looks to be not quite the world-beater that they are/were. A goal every three games (according to wiki) is nice but not great.

In MLS, that translates to a double digit goalscorer. Every team needs one of those.

    Pointless

I remember him from Dallas Cup a few years back. He was quite the finisher.

    i agree w/ saban.

i immediately thought of kenny cooper watching him play. as noted, similar skill-set w/ the ball at his feet. he holds the ball quite well…kinda like danny dichio. if SKAK is trying to tie him up for 3 years, they’ve gotta see some potential. although his highlights lack wow-factor, he probably wouldn’t hurt.

also, it appears he’s played at some nearly empty stadiums. should feel right at home at PHP.

If Udinese own his rights then he can’t be that shabby of a player, at the age of 23 getting a Serie A contract with a middle level club is pretty big.

I agree with saban and 3nOut.
His playing style is very similar to Keny Cooper. Much better than what we have right now… (except by Brek, that in my opinion is out of position, playing as a left wing).

    also another factor…
SKAK is offering him a 3-year deal. that probably means a good deal of money needed to spend for him. so, in all likelihood…not gonna happen here w/ HSG running the show.

Some really nice foot work skills! Reminds me of another CAP product, Andre Rocha. Hmmm, in that case, let’s pass on him.
