Austin Chamber of Commerce honors Austin Aztex with Community Relations AwardAztex organization recognized for its community efforts in 2009 AUSTIN, Texas – While 2009 hasn’t been the dream first season on the field for the Aztex team, off the field the organization has made its mark in the Austin community achieving great success in a variety of programs including the Austin Independent School District (AISD) Fitness Program. For all of its year-round efforts in the community, the Austin Chamber of Commerce recognized the Aztex at the 2009 Greater Austin Business Awards. At the awards ceremony held at the downtown Hilton, the Aztex received the Community Relations Award in the Small Business category. The Aztex beat out more than 30 companies who applied to win the award, including other finalists CWS Corporate Housing; KeyStaff, Inc.; Legend Communities, Inc.; and Meritage Homes. The Aztex received the award based on its numerous contributions to the community this past year including the AISD Fitness Program where Aztex players worked to improve the cardiovascular fitness of 6th grade students at each of AISD’s 18 middle schools. Results from the program alone were impressive as AISD reported an 11 percent increase in fitness across the schools compared with only two percent last year. In addition to working with organizations like Any Baby Can, Austin CAN! Academy, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and Lift Up America, the Aztex raised more than $10,000 in donations throughout the year. According to Community Relations Director Kay Rawlins, the award validates the time and money the Aztex organization has committed to giving back in the community. “We were extremely proud to have won this award and to be recognized with the other highly regarded companies. To win the award from the Chamber, especially in this category, is extremely gratifying. While our organization is in the entertainment business, we are also keenly aware of how important it is to integrate within the community. And this year our entire organization–front office, coaches and players–all committed to a variety of community service projects. We want to be part of the fabric of the Austin community and this is just our small contribution to making an already great city even better.” 5 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

I know what your doing, Buzz. They’re not taking notes.
And I’m sure you saw that we just signed Jamie Watson: http://www.austinaztex.com/new...ines/index.html?article_id=174. It’s been a good first season — oh, except for being in almost dead last, that is.
Oh, and they’re going to play in a stadium DOWNTOWN next year. Weird concept.
General admission seating too.
Great news.
