Brek Shea Frustrated
August 27th, 2009 . 3:22 pm . By: Buzz CarrickSteve Hunt has a great piece on Brek Shea in which Shea expresses his frustrations. I’m surprised MLSnet was willing to publish it. Give it a read, Shea says he’s frustrated both with the early sub this weekend and adjusting to coach Schellas Hyndman’s system. Shea says it’s different from what he has been taught by other coaches, notable US U20 coach Thomas Rongen. 17 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

Ilike that shea is frustrated and is wanting to make an impact. with the season pretty much over and him going to the U-20’s not sure he will playmany more games for FCD this year. Who know if he does well enough in Egypt he might be off to Europe in December.
At this point I assume he won’t be back in Dallas, or if he is it won’t be for very long.
If only we had a quality coach (like Thomas Rongen) that the players enjoyed playing for (like Rongen). Wait, I’m having a moment of inspiration here….what if we hired Thomas Rongen???
Sounds like he needs to grow up to me. He’s still under 20 so I don’t know why he’s complaining, yet. Not like he’s our best player and being benched! With that in mind, I like his speed but he is inconsistent. He just needs growing, in more ways than one.
I hope that he takes out his frustration during the U-20s
maybe SH thought he could put him back in like they do in college?
Wrongen has been awful in MLS. Not a great talent evaluator. Gets stuck on certain formations (like someone else we know).
That said, Shea is gone after the U20s. Tall, fast, athletic, nobody will resist that, and it will become fashionable to pick up US players after the confed cup.
I think we may be taking it a bit far to say “It will be fashionable to pick up US players after the cofed cup.” It is ALWAYS fahionable to pick up good players though and Brek is definately one who will show up on some European radars! Good luck to him and thanks Brek for speaking your mind!!!!

I think Shea is voicing his opinion just like most all the FCD fans are reguarding SH. I can’t seem to find anything positive on any board about SH. But what do the fans know after all. The Hunts don’t care what we know and want.
Good luck Brek, we see promis in you.
They should have surfed 3rd for a photo for the article, damn that’s awkward.
Schellas jacked him up last year by forcing him into CB and he hurt his knee in the process. Schellas obviously forgot that defender was Brek’s “natural” position. He also forgot how to be a classy coach. Pulling a player in the first half without injury is the biggest slap in the face possible. Schellas is a trainwreck and cancer. A chimp could out coach the bus driver.
Were you watching the same game I was? If pulling a player in the first half without injury is the biggest slap in the face possible, then hopefully it lit a fire under Shea’s arse, who was just “phoning it in” and playing like he could care less. Give me a coach who has some balls over a classy coach any day. Being 19 years old and having an attitude the size of our state and talking smack about your head coach has made me lose a lot of respect for Shea, who I really used to like. Sounds like a spoiled brat to me, and they will put up with this kind of crap even less if he manages to go across the pond to play. There’s a lot of even better talent out there Shea, and if I were you I would be apologizing not only to my coach, but to my entire team for acting so unprofessionally, especially at this point in the season. Call me old school, but I’m not impressed.
Hello Nigel,
Brek was mailing it in? Andre Rocha is the guy that you felt should be in the game? Just to give you some background on the team, Andre Rocha has been mailing it in since last year’s KC away match. Brek is always one of the hardest working players on the pitch. Brek was playing ok and Atiba was struggling so you say pull Brek. I question your football mind sir.
As for Schellas, he has demanded complete deference from his players from day one. He has not done one thing to earn that level of respect except for being a Sr. Citizen. Schellas makes disasterous decisions as a coach and displays very poor leadership skills. General Patton slapped his soldiers that were in the hospital and his men hated him for it but at least he was a tactical genius. Schellas does the equivalent to slapping men in hospital beds but is a tactical failure at best.
I hate to see all of the soccer posts degrade to whining about the coach and now a 19yr old’s comments. Just shows how bad of a season it has been. I see some positives with the young US players fcd has. Just not sure if they will get a chance to develop here. I would have thought this is the perfect time to get them some pt. Instead we raid s. america again, and again.
Seven, it should also be noted that the soldier (not plural) in question had nothing wrong with him physically, in a hospital filled to capacity with the wounded. The soldier he slapped he did so because the man was allegedly a coward. It’d be more like if the situation were reversed, and he had subbed off rocha in the first half, bringing on shea. instead, SH is doing something like kicking them when they’re down.
Bama,
Yes George may have had a point but the way he handled the situation(s) caused his loyal men to turn on him. My granddad hated him.
Schellas, like you said, had no reason to act but did.
