FCD Looking to Add Heath Pearce

August 22nd, 2009 . 1:21 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

By placing Alvaro Sanchez on season ending injured reserve.

Friday at training, when asked about roster relief for the U20s (not be myself, as I’m aware the team gets no roster relief midseason for any reason), Shellas Hyndman’s answer was interesting.  He mentioned placing Alvaro Sanchez on injured reserve and adding Heath Pearce.

Here’s his answer in full.

You don’t get roster relief, if that’s what you are asking.  We don’t get roster relief but we may wave players [in order to add some], or we may trade players, but I think right now we’re concerned about Sanchez going into twelve weeks on an ankle.  Even if he comes back tomorrow he hasn’t kicked a ball, or been kicked, where is he or do we get someone who is healthy?  So we may have to do an injury ending season situation.  There’s interest from Health Pearce wanting to come back and we’ve got the #1 lottery [allocation] spot, so we may be in a situation where we might be able to use it.

So we’re not done yet and I’m very happy with Jair [Benitez] and Atiba [Harris], and I’m sure I’m going to be very happy with [Marvin] Chavez, but I still think there’s work to be done.

So Sanchez on the IR, Heath Pearce coming in.  Ok, I’m down with that.

No FCD doesn’t need a left back having added Jair Benitez, but Pearce is a nicer player than that.  He can play in multiple spots.  I imagine he might slot in a left mid or even center back when the 20s are gone.  You can never have two many good players most coaches will tell you.

Although this can’t be good news for Blake Wagner.

I like Pearce. And it might be nice to have somebody who’s currently on the national squad and not a has-been. That is, if Bradley hasn’t already decided that Pearce is a has-been.

This seems too straightforward of a quote by Coach Polonius.

While I’d be happy to have Pearce, don’t you think this is more of an ultimatum to Sanchez? As in, get on the pitch already, or we’ll do something drastic…

Wonder why they’d consider putting him on IR instead of dumping him back to Costa Rica. Guess he’s not ready to give up on a left-sided MF.

Andy, could be a call out.

But SH last week said they have “moved on” for Sanchez for this year even if he returns. I would imagine though that Tom’s on a two season loan. So putting him on the IR you get a talented player back for next year.

    At least one can hope.

ugh… When I think of a DP player, I want a game changer. Heath Pearce in my mind isn’t that type of player. Solid, yes, but I’d pass on that.

Again, as in the Marvin Chavez addition, this improves the squad and gives us more options as Buzz alluded to. He could play CD if someone gets hurt or carded, or moving Richetti elsewhere.

The more good players the better. Add while flash is good & important, FCDs problem is allowing goals more than scoring them.

    dallassoccer,

I would be shocked if Pearce was a DP signing. Rather, I bet FCD will use some allocation money to lower the hit on the cap.

Otherwise the league would have, in a sense, not allowed FCD to retain Cooper as a DP, but allowed them to sign Pearce as a DP.

Which would be ridiculous…even for MLS.

Pearce must be willing to come to the states at a cheaper price in order to make the World Cup team and then move on for a bigger contract.

Therefore, I would not be surprised if it was a 2-year contract.

Heath Pearce wouldn’t be a DP. It’s a nice pickup, as there aren’t many other Nat players that could come to MLS at this point of the season.

Pearce will work a deal with MLS and tell them where he’s willing to play and it won’t be FCD. Seattle, San Jose, LA even Chivas but not Dallas. We will get something for the pick so that should help…don’t need a LB any way and that’s all he’s willing to play due to his Nat’s situation.

with jair on loan he cannot be traded? is there a rule about how long a newly acquired player must stay with his new club? just curious what the rules are regarding this in MLS, is it just standard fifa transfer policy? 2 clubs in 12 months or something to that extent or is it different in MLS?

I am with tex on this one. Why would HP come here if he isn’t going to get the opportunity to play where he thinks he has the best shot at making the WC roster (LB). It just doesn’t make sense to bring him in, then have him end up being a cancer in the room.

He has already had run ins with coaches over in Europe due to his attitude, if you want to believe what is reported on the BigSoccer YA boards about his time at Rostock.

can you release generation adidas players???

  14. Comment by jonesing on August 25, 2009 11:14 AM

Not sure, but why would you WANT to release a GA player – they have no impact to the salary cap and don’t cost HSG anything. If roster space is needed and a GA player needs to go to make room for a new player, the GA WILL be traded. Maybe only for allocation $$ or a low pick, but NO WAY would that player be released. Some MLS team could always use a free player even if he is a bench warmer.

Hey did anyone notice on the season ticket renewal form for “Loge” seats it say they include a “New 2010 FC Dallas Authentic Jersey”?

Seems to be saying FCD will have new jerseys next season.

  16. Comment by Buzz Carrick on August 25, 2009 2:14 PM

Yes, you can cut a GA.

  17. Comment by jonesing on August 25, 2009 3:02 PM

Ok so you can, but again, Why would you? Certainly you could trade any GA (at least any GA on the FCD roster currently) to someone for something (at least a bag of chips).
