First Annual FC Dallas International Night

July 21st, 2009 . 2:57 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

The First Annual FC Dallas International Night is taking place on August 1st when FCD is home against Kansas City Wizards.  What is International Night you might ask?  Apparently it’s a local soccer tournament featuring teams from various local leagues, one would assume with an international flavor.  The games will take place at PHP that day, with a festival of music, international venders, dancing, and even a parade that evening surrounding the game.

Doesn’t sound like a bad idea, I hope it will catch on.  Slight nitpick, maybe facing Chivas USA next time might be a better idea than KC.

Here’s the team’s press release.

FC DALLAS SET TO HOST FIRST ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL NIGHT CELEBRATION AT PIZZA HUT PARK

FRISCO, Texas (Monday, July 20, 2009) – FC Dallas has partnered with the DFW International Community Alliance to celebrate the global impact of the sport of soccer and the cultural diversity of the Metroplex with the first annual International Night Celebration at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco. The event will take place on Saturday, August 1 when the team hosts the Kansas City Wizards at 7:30 p.m. CT. The special day will feature a World Cup-style amateur soccer tournament on the park’s complex fields, a global festival on the north concourse plaza, and a parade of nations on the main stadium field prior to kickoff.

“This marks the first-ever FC Dallas International Night Celebration, which we hope will soon be an annual event at Pizza Hut Park,” said Kelly Weller, FC Dallas Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Soccer is truly the world’s game, reflected by the 21 countries that have been represented by various players throughout the team’s history. This event will not only celebrate the global impact of the sport of soccer, but will also celebrate the rich multicultural presence throughout the Metroplex.”

The International Night Celebration kicks off at 9 a.m. on the PHP complex fields with a World Cup-style amateur soccer tournament. The 11-versus-11 competition is open to eight men’s teams from various international communities around the Metroplex, and the winning team will be presented with a trophy during halftime of the FCD versus Kansas City match.

The Pizza Hut Park stadium gates will open at 5 p.m., at which point the global festival will begin on the north concourse plaza. The festivities will include live music, dancers and an international vendor village. A parade of nations will take place on the stadium field shortly before kickoff, allowing various community groups to represent their respective nations and cultures.

What they are going after a different demographic! I’m outraged, what will the soccer moms and kids due.

Kelly – It’s ‘inagural’, not ‘first annual’.
