Danny Szetela Anyone?
July 14th, 2009 . 4:11 pm . By: Buzz CarrickHe just signed with MLS and FCD owns the top slot in the returning American race. He has a strong relationship with Ellinger. At this point I say go for it. He could help out in midfield, perhaps even at right mid. He can’t be all that expensive either I wouldn’t think. What are the chances someone like Cherundolo comes back? Beasley, FYI, has one year left on his deal with Rangers. 28 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

Oy vey….headcase. Never lived up to his potential. Seemed to be a problem in Columbus from the beginning, pouting over not going to NY. But he is capable of great things when he wants to be.
Ohh..and wouldn’t this just be another body to clog up the midfield. We need strikers…..we need wingers…..we don’t need another central midfielder.
Unless he’s become a right mid or a striker recently, no thanks.
He played a lot of wide mid for the Crew.
Did he play it good enough to warrant the usage of a top allocation? Not from what I remember.
do we lose the pick if we don’t use it on the first guy?
Charley, no. FCD could pass. Or more likely they would trade with someone who really wanted him. Maybe down a spot or two.
If you don’t use it by the end of the season it will get moved down below whatever allocations are handed out to the non-playoff teams.

Pass. I seriously doubt Beasley is going to make it with Rangers and he needs to be playing right now.
Moose, I agree that Beasley is probably not going to make it with Rangers, but do you actually want him on FC Dallas? Unless his work ethic changes dramatically, I see him as a big liability. More than anything, FC Dallas needs a couple more people with the mentality of a Dax McCarty or a Kyle Beckerman…players who are steadfast fighters for 90 minutes.
Case in point….the one difference maker in our game with Rapids last weekend was Kimura, who for my money gave the only truly inspired effort among the 22 men on the field at any given time.
Grab him because he will make the team better, at least give more trade pieces, and you don’t know what else is coming back to MLS this season. Never write a player off when he is still that young.
What I would love to see but won’t happen, is to pick him up, move to a 3-5-2. Play him and Dax behind Ferriera in the middle. Davies, Ricchetti, and Moor across the back. Cooper up top with Shea, VDB left and Sanchez right.
Pass on Beasley. We don’t need another injury liability. After watching him with the Nats lately, it looks like all the injuries have robbed him of his speed and quickness.

That’s the first thing I thought when I saw he was coming back, also. Especially with the fact FCD doesn’t have anyone to play either outside back very well. They could even go 433…I don’t see a reason to pass up a young, but experienced player. He could also play right back!
Plus, with VDB what would be the point of having DMB?
Buzz – How long do we have to decide….can we wait to see if someone better comes along or do we have a limited window to make a decision?
Not very long.
“Plus, with VDB what would be the point of having DMB?”
VDB has show that he can play RW successfully, and though DMB struggled at LB for the national team, he could be good enough for that position in MLS, and overlapping runs between the two of them could be awesome.
Trade the pick to someone who needs a central midfielder but has a decent left back or right midfielder.
Robert, timber – I agree for the most part. I just think he’s more of a sure thing than Szetela, and from the SH practice interview we’re now fairly sure he covets the guy (Buzz tell me if I read too much into what he said).
BTW,anyone else interested in seeing Pavel Nedved wilt in the sun out here while playing for LA or NY? I know I’m looking forward to it.
Ives says that DC is the most likely destination for Szetela. He apparantly met with the DCU people yesterday. Ives says that Dallas is likely to pass…although I don’t know if that’s sourced info or just a guess. You can never tell with Ives, his journalistic integrity ain’t all that great, IMO.
Well, if DC United is in the mix, how about getting Quaranta in return? That would take care of our need for a right midfielder.
I doubt DCU would make that trade. Would you?
Yes, please, good addition. We need midfielders, a right midfielder, and he is this player. Please, take him!
No spanks… We need someone to fill the needs of this team AND someone who is going to get butts in the seats. Danny Szetela will do neither.
SI is reporting, “Czech star Neved considering MLS”… Now that’s someone we need!!
How about Quaranta, Pontius, and one of their DP’s for Szetela? lol
We could have had Pontius . . .
Is he still in the USMNT picture?
