3rdDegree.Net: Not a South African News Show
July 8th, 2009 . 4:31 am . By: Buzz CarrickOver the last few years I’ve been getting lots of spam about things in Africa. Housing, poor working conditions, bad health stuff… I never really thought much about it. I figured most of it was the typical spam/scam fishing stuff. You know, Price of Nigeria and all that. But in the last month I’ve been getting more and more “friend” requests on FaceBook from people in South Africa (I’ve always had a “add anyone who asks that isn’t porn” philosophy). I think it really gained speed after I picked up the vanity URL http://www.facebook.com/third.degree. At first I just thought it was kinda an oddity, perhaps some group of friends decided they like FC Dallas or some such. But in the last couple of days it’s really started to go nuts (in relative terms) with 10, 20… even 30 people a day from South African asking to be 3rd Degree’s “friend.” I even got what looked like one of the spam emails sent as a message on there, something about housing. So tonight, I googled 3rd Degree and South Africa. It turns out 3rd Degree is the name of an investigative journalism TV show in South Africa. So I now assume all these people adding 3rd Degree (the Independent FC Dallas News Site) on FaceBook think they are adding this TV show. And many of those spam emails I’ve gotten over the last couple years probably weren’t spam. They were probably people trying to explain their plight to the TV show. Or perhaps people who wanted to tip off this TV show. It makes me wish I could go back and forward all those email to the show. Maybe someone in there needed some help. So if you’re looking for info on, or trying to contact, the TV show 3rd Degree from South Africa… You’ve come to the wrong place. Edit: When this post hit facebook, here are the first two posts in response…
Um… hello! You are responding to a post telling you this is NOT the TV show.

Buzz – I’m huge in South Africa, baby.
that is crazy. I guess it just goes to show how close the world has become with the internet. zBuzz are you going to do any write ups about Kenny and the Gold Cup?
Soccerroo,
I will spare Buzz the need to cover Kenny and the Gold Cup as of today. Here is the big scoop…
The spot on the bench where Kenny has been sitting is very, very warm.
Done!
Robert,
That was great!
So what is the update after last night? slightly cooled
By my count Coop had four chances on goal.
So he created a chance every 2.1 minutes and had a shot on goal every 4.6 minutes?
