FCD to Host CSD Comunicaciones

June 22nd, 2009 . 12:40 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

FCD has confirmed the international friendly for Pizza Hut Park.  The match will take place on July 15th at 7:30 PM and will probably be a semi-reserve game similar to the Herediano match.

There was a big of confusion about the date on this one in the rumors that made the rounds this weekend as FCD GM Michael Hitchcock had mentioned July 15th as a date FCD might be playing partner club Tigres.

FC DALLAS TO HOST CSD COMUNICACIONES IN INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY ON JULY 15

FRISCO, TX (Monday, June 22, 2009) – FC Dallas will face Guatemala’s storied Club Sport y Social Comunicaciones in an international friendly at Pizza Hut Park on Wednesday, July 15 (7:30 p.m. CT), the team announced Monday. The match will mark the second-ever meeting between the clubs and the first at Pizza Hut Park. FC Dallas fell 1-0 in clubs’ first meeting in 1997.

“We’re really looking forward to this friendly against CSD Comunicaciones,” FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman said. “This is a great opportunity to test ourselves against a high-quality international opponent and it gives the coaching staff a chance to evaluate some of our younger players in a competitive match.”

CSD Comunicaciones, nicknamed Los Cremas for the team’s cream-colored home jerseys, plays in Guatemala’s top division, Liga Nacional. One of the most storied clubs in Guatemala, the team has won 22 league titles throughout its history, the most recent coming in the 2008 Apertura season (August through December). CSD Comunicaciones is led by forward and captain Rolando Fonseca, the all-time leading scorer of the Costa Rican national team with 47 goals.

The July friendly is included as Bonus Game B for all FC Dallas full season plan holders. Tickets for the general public range from $20-75 and will go on sale at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23. Tickets are available at FCDallas.com, all Ticketmaster outlets and Ticketmaster.com. For more information, call 888-FCD-GOAL (888-323-4625) Parking is free for all FC Dallas games at Pizza Hut Park. The game will also be available via live webstream on FCDallas.com.

This will be the fourth international friendly of the year for FC Dallas after splitting a pair of games against Brazilian partner Clube Atletico Paranaense in March, and defeating Costa Rica’s CS Herediano on June 10.

Wow. The person in charge of making up the Schellas quote has gotta get more creative.

“We’re very excited to be playing CS Herediano from Costa Rica,” said FC Dallas Head Coach Schellas Hyndman. “They’re a very good team and this gives our players an extra opportunity to face quality competition. This game will not only help our players’ individual development, but will also help the coaching staff continue to make evaluations.”

The PR reads like a madlib replacement from last month’s…

There’s no way I’d pay full price for tickets to a glorified scrimmage like this.
