Oh Please No

June 18th, 2009 . 11:54 am . By: Buzz Carrick

Don’t let Freddy Adu be the #1 allocation FCD is holding.

You see, people are starting to say, “he needs to be playing.”  Translation for a player is Europe, is “go home to MLS.”

A small, tweener midfielder with lots of hypes, some offensive moves, and little defense or work rate is exactly NOT what FC Dallas needs.

Please, Ellinger, Hyndman, Seniors Hunt, please, I am begging you.  Please don’t bring Freddy Adu to FC Dallas.  Sure he’d sell a couple tickets, but just what exactly would he do for this team on the field?  He would solve absolutely zero of FCDs current problems.

Let’s face it: We all know that he’s the perfect player for the brain surgeons running the team.

  2. Comment by mudpoet on June 18, 2009 12:19 PM

I actually don’t even think he’d sell tickets

  3. Comment by Xanthippas on June 18, 2009 12:21 PM

Why does it not surprise me that FCD might get him long after the hype that could at least be used to sell tickets is gone?

  4. Comment by rhouston55 on June 18, 2009 12:29 PM

He’s got some talent and I want to see him develop but I totally agree that he doesn’t belong at FC Dallas or really in MLS at all. I think he’d be better served by going to a second division European league. He might get some playing time there and he wouldn’t get stomped on like he would in MLS.

  5. Comment by Wes on June 18, 2009 12:38 PM

I would be shocked if Adu came back to MLS.

  6. Comment by Dan on June 18, 2009 1:14 PM

I think the hype has disappeared. Bringing himhere will do nothing for FCD as a team or in the stands

Hey here is an idea…we grab Freddy Adu on allocation, and then get Denilson on loan from Vietnamese club Xi Mang Hai Phong FC!

More Midfielders dammit! I want we see SH play a 2-6-2 formation before the year is over!

“Some teams have Kaka; others sign his friend Saragosa, who plays like Kaka.”

  8. Comment by Monkey hooligan on June 18, 2009 2:28 PM

OK… trade saragosa for Gordon in La… then Guarda for Pontius in DC… switch up to a 3-4-3 and just score goal… if the team is going to end up 5-15-10 or something… I want alot of goals….put peri and shea up top… cooper as a withdrawn forward… mids are avila, vbd, ricchetti, and dax… def is moor, wagner and wallace

Use our DP slot for an undersized MF that can’t play defense and pouts on the bench? Brilliant!!! Let’s raise ticket prices!

  10. Comment by Robert on June 18, 2009 2:55 PM

    Buzz,

If not Adu, who do you suggest FCD should use their allocation towards? Or should they just hold it?

But, I think we all agree Adu does need to play. Perhaps he should play in the Dutch league where many younger players cut their teeth before moving up.

If this happens, I’m just going to pretend that it’s 2004 and he’s arriving after we selected him with the 1st overall pick in the MLS draft. Since this is how it should have gone down before the MLS powers-that-be screwed us over, this will be my revisionist memory.

FCD should be thrilled to get any USMNT caliber player if one comes home. For a guy like Adu you are talking DP money. I think he makes 1.5 million now. No worries though, he’s not coming back to America until he’s in the 35-40 range and then take our DP money.

  13. Comment by Casey C. on June 18, 2009 4:20 PM

I actually would love to see Adu here. The team isn’t exactly working how it is right now.

  14. Comment by Z on June 18, 2009 4:33 PM

Adu needs to go to France. That would be the perfect league for his game, IMO.

  15. Comment by Charles on June 18, 2009 4:45 PM

@ Z-He tried going to France on loan from Benfica. Apparently, it didn’t work out for him.

He needs to stay his ass in Portugal for a couple more seasons.

Freddy would be a hell of a lot better than Heath Pearce and some other names I’ve heard out there. MLS is a physical league that requires athleticism and Ferreira has neither of those. This would be a nice pickup, I’m surprised people don’t think he could come in and make an impact

After today’s performance in S. Africa i think Beasley is the next to come home to try to resurrect his career. There’s no way Bradly put him on the MNT again with straight face. I think he’s be better than Adu, would sell tickets, and he’d continuously let us down with bad touches and costly turnovers . . . a perfect fit!

  18. Comment by Dave Clark on June 18, 2009 8:53 PM

Freddy Adu has tried the 2nd tier Euro leagues, and isn’t cutting it. MLS is perfect for him to actually play, and having a former collegiate coach might be the right idea, but FCD has way too many issues right now, and a DP won’t solve them.

    Multiple players will.

Trade the #1 allocation slot and DP slot to a team with a former US U-20 coach with a collegiate national championship so he can learn the game. Heck, the team I’m thinking of has plenty of depth even.

  19. Comment by JasonB on June 18, 2009 9:57 PM

Adu wouldn’t be back in MLS for DP money. He wouldn’t be cheap, but he wouldn’t break the bank.

Unfortunately, with SH refusing to start Avila, I think for sure Freddy wouldn’t get a game either. It would be a wasted pickup.

However, he is a better passer than cunningham, and would be a better player to pair with Cooper up top. Just saying… he would certainly be an improvement over some of the players on the roster.

  20. Comment by Buzz Carrick on June 18, 2009 10:23 PM

Dan, the amount of posts in this thread should tell you about the Adu hype factor.

Robert. Beasley won’t shock me, but I believe he’s got a year left on his contract. I might take a run at Torres.

  21. Comment by Pegasus on June 19, 2009 6:05 AM

Can’t imagine why Torres would want to come to this mess. Actually that goes for anyone.

  22. Comment by DallasSoccer on June 19, 2009 6:23 AM

I’d take Adu way before Beasley! Beasley’s confidence is way down, and just isn’t a game changer. I think Benny Feilhaber needs to get to MLS and get games under his belt. That guy is one of the few players on the MNT that actually has some composure and needs to be playing in next years World Cup (that’s if they even qualify…). FCD should be trying to get him… He seems a more realistic target than all the others..

  23. Comment by Time for Oscar on June 21, 2009 4:33 PM

I think Beasly’s career is just about over. He might not be able to fully recover from the knee inury. Some players dont come back from such an injury. Of course, I’M not one of them…

  24. Comment by MS on June 22, 2009 10:22 AM

I’d take Adu over David Ferreira in a second. Adu has good touch, deception, and is an excellent free-kick specialist. Ferreira doesn’t hold the ball well, he doesn’t provide any defense either, and so far hasn’t showed an outside shot.

    It won’t happen anyways.
