Davis on Midfielders

June 16th, 2009 . 9:29 am . By: Buzz Carrick

Steve Davis has something to say about the new deep-lying playmaker, and uses Dax McCarty as one of his prime examples.

In Dallas, Dax McCarty is a deep-lying playmaker in a 4-1-4-1. He’s got two guys in front of him that can also make the offense go, but McCarty’s all-around ability provides him with options: he can be a simple, central distributor or he can push the attack by spraying longer balls into wide areas or into the lone striker.

McCarty has been quite good since his insertion back into the lineup.  It will be interesting to see how long he keeps that spot, despite his good play, when the center backs get healthy and Ricchetti moves back to midfield.
