Ted Eck Resurfaces
May 25th, 2009 . 8:26 am . By: Buzz CarrickIt’s not like he was missing, since most people close to FCD knew he was in Hawaii where he was Director of Coaching with Maui United and as the Vice President of the Maui Youth Soccer League. But after five years in the Pacific, Ted Eck has been spotted as the new head coach of the Ogden Outlaws. (Halfway down front page) The Ogden Outlaws are affiliated with Real Salt Lake and we can only imagine Jason Kreis had something to do with Eck getting this job. Eck is also Director of Coaching for the Outlaw FC Youth Club. Gee, there’s an interesting idea, a PDL team for a MLS club. Eck, along with people like Brain Haynes, Zarco Rodriguez, Mark Dodd, Dante Washington, Eric Dade, Mark Santel, and Ed Puskarish, to name a few, are some of the people that FCD should have held on to as coaches in their system or at least kept affiliated with the club in some way. Numbers Side NoteYou may recall I have this thing about numbers. Eck, along with Leonel Alvarez are the two player who made the #14 , in my opinion, the most important number in the FCD lexicon. (Although #9 with Kreis is close) FCD wanted to give Simo Valakari the #14 to continue the tradition of importance of that number, but when Simo arrived at the club that spring Gavin Glinton, with whom FCD wanted to do an injury buyout, was wearing the number. Drew Moor was lending the proper decorum to the #14 for the last few years, but has moved to the #3. A move I can’t condemn as the #3 is an appropriate number for him. So George John, good start young man, but that #14 is an important standard to carry here in Dallas. I will be watching to see if you can hold up high. 11 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

Eck just shows you don’t have to be good at something to teach it. Good luck, if hard work can get it done he will be good.
Eric Dade is DOC for a club in Birmingham, AL now (Birmingham United?). evidently, they are doing well as an up-and-coming club in Region III, sending lots of kids to D1 schools.
Geez it didn’t take long for the ted-trolls to show up. It makes it feel like old-times (except for the on-field quality)
I can’t wait for someone to pop up and explain why Alain Sutter was the best player ever to grace either our fair city or Frisco.
Alain “my groin still hurts” Sutter?
Singlehandedly handcuffed this franchise for years with that injury.
Blame Jeffries for Eddie leaving..
Buzz, didn’t Teddie wear 41 ??
I think Jeff Cassar might have had something to do with it to. Didn’t he coach a camp out in Maui for Eck’s group a few years back?
All right, I’ll do it: Alain Sutter was and still is the most talented and soccer savvy player ever to don the jersey. Injury prone? Yes. But still the most talented. Let’s all remember that Alain was the central midfielder (and wide, or whereever he chose to go) when FCD/Burn won their 1 and only trophy. So claim handcuffing all you want, Sutter is the trophy winning signing of the club. Who else can claim that for their pick of best player?
Steve, Eck was 12 in ‘96. When Leo left Eck switched to 14. When Leo came back Eck switched to 41 (respect). Sometime after Leo again left, Eck switched back to 14.
Yee Ha! It’s 1999 all over again!
The reason Eck got so much crap was not due to his actual play. It was due to the fact that he was the #1 draft pick. If we had taken Eck at #3, we would all remember him fondly for his class, grit and skill.
The knock on Eck was never anything about positioning, attitude, passing or decisions. It was always goal production compared to what a #1 pick “should” have produced.
Changing the subject a little, the same fever that led to the dogpiling on Ted is now focused on Bruno. Bruno is still a lot more raw than Eck, but he’s got a long career ahead of him. I predict that no matter what Bruno does, he’ll still be the victim of Eck-fever.
Eck was not only drafted #1, he was also drafted as a forward, where he promptly showed us he sucked. But once Dir figured out he was a destroyer type d-mid, he was pretty good at his position. I remember how he always took care of business when we played Valderrama.
