Hahnemann Anyone?

May 12th, 2009 . 12:38 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Ives speculates that Marcus Hahnemann’s days may be numbered at Reading.

If so, and with the injury to Dario Sala, would you want Hahnemann with the #1 Allocation?  At 36 does Hahnemann have a couple years left?

I’ve watched Kasey Keller carry a team on his back – ok he’s had some help.

A quality keeper can keep any team in the game. Hahnemann immediately becomes a top 5 keeper in MLS if he joins.

For Dallas that would be the difference between being a bottom third of the table club and being a middle third.

If making the MLS Cup Playoffs is a goal, a stud keeper is a requirement.

GK is the one spot we have covered. To use our #1 spot on it would be illogical.

If he has value, get him and trade him for center backs

    Meh.

I see only a few teams going after Hahnemann. One is DC, who are trying to bridge the gap between the present (Crayton) and the future (Kocic). Crayton’s contract runs out midseason, is rather large, and he takes up an international spot. All those things add up to him likely being gone by the end of June. DC sits at #2 on the list and would probably be likely to take him if FCD doesn’t. They also have a couple of tradeable players (Burch, Fred) who could help FCD on both sides of the ball.

That brings me to team #2, which is, of course, FCD. Sala’s injuries are worrisome and Burse isn’t quite there yet. There’s also Lambo, who is still a project but is (supposedly) promising. The question is whether FCD would be better off waiting for the next Nat player (Simek, Beasley, Pearce, etc.) who comes along.

I think they would be wise to wait and listen to any potential trade partners and keep the #1 spot if nothing worthwhile is offered.

ryan, its illogical, which is exactly why FCD will claim Hahneman if he becomes available.

Or simply trade spots with DCU for a 2nd round draft pick or something.

At this point, their troubles are not at keeper, but field play. Just out of curiosity, (and I know he’s just coming back from a knee injury), but does anyone think a guy like Benny Feilhaber could help this team? I know a while back, the rumor mill had him coming to MLS.

While he is a good keeper, we need a real #10, a central defender, outside backs, a forward to partner with and take over for KC in the summer, more depth on bench, and a new coach. Can we sign and trade Hahnemann for Tom Soehn or someone (anyone) else to captain this ship? Please???

can we use our #1 allocation on a coach? i think, more than anything, it’s what this franchise needs desperately

He may end up being the best available. If Sala can’t get better, maybe we take Hahnemann on, then unload him in a year or two to the club he began his career with, Seattle. Hopefully, the timing would sync between Keller retiring and Lambo taking the reigns at FCD.

Can we take him and then trade him for a real coach????

We need a central defender more than we need a good keeper.

What the hell good would this do? 4 f’n keepers on the 24 man roster? Obviously we would have to shop one, but what a waste of an asset this would be. I would prefer to hold our breath that someone that plays in the field is our best hope. This team needs vets, not draft picks.

Yes, please, to replace Dario Sala. Le he come back to Argentina, his head isn’t anymore in the USA, just look at his last games this year, he has been awfull, with 3 injuries.

No, thank you. GK is not the problem (or the answer)

  20. Comment by SteveToro on May 14, 2009 7:51 AM

I don’t like the idea. Even given MLS’s parity, how long will it be before we put the pieces in place that will let us breakthrough? By that point, how old will Hahnemann be?

I’m feeling all Shaka Hislop on this one.

How about Gooch – he is out of contract and on a free!
