Five Red Stripes Called for the US U20s
May 12th, 2009 . 10:28 am . By: Buzz CarrickBrek Shea, Peri Marosevic, Anthony Wallace, Josh Lambo and Kyle Davies have been called into the next US U20 camp from May 23-28 in Sarasota, Florida, where the U.S. team will play Costa Rica in two friendlies. The camp is being run in conjunction with the Developmental Academy Showcase. According to FCD, the fie players will leave Dallas following the May 23 game vs. LA Galaxy at Pizza Hut Park. Three other MLS sides have players in the U20 team, Chivas USA with two, Houston and Toronto FC with one each. While none of the five FCD players seen significant playing time, Anthony Wallace perhaps the closest with his improved play the last two weeks, their absence will make the FCD bench a bit thin during that time frame. 10 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

does this mean if they win we can count them in our win column? not sure it would be enough to help
if we keep losing like we are, why don’t we try some of these younger guys in bigger roles? They are good enough for the national team, albeit at the U-20’s but still let’s give them a shot.
Well, there goes the youth movement.
So what am I to take away from this? We have 5 US20’s on our last place team. Should this be an indictment of a weak US national team player pool, or a statement of how solid MLS talent is?
@ KK – Take it as you wish…but logic would dictate that you consider the on-field performance of the 5 being called up, consider why they may not have gotten more playing time, (is it due to roster size? lack of experience? preference of coaches? performance during training?)
I had a dream Brek Shea came on as a sub and won a game for us. Highlight of the season thus far for me.
The kids need playtime somewhere somehow. USL, PDL, something.
@ Chaz – I’m curious what your answers to those questions would be. Frankly, I don’t have the answers and am curious what others like yourself think. Personally, I don’t think roster size is it. It can’t be on-field performance since these guys haven’t gotten any game time. Unless the US coaches are coming to training and seeing something our coaches are not, it can’t be performance in training. I just don’t know. What do you think?
KK -These guys have been a part of the us youth nat programs in the past, they were at the U20 World Cup qualifying a few months ago. As GA players they cost the club nothing, so if they stockpile these players and 1 turns out to be the real deal then its a good deal for fcd.
Great. Just as our U20’s start to contribute they will get called away.
