Dancers? At the FCD game?

March 22nd, 2009 . 10:10 am . By: Chamo Jones

Yes, indeed. The FC Dallas dancers made their debut last night. Buzz and DJ have both stated that they don’t care for the idea of having dancers/cheerleader at a soccer game. But not everybody here at 3rdDegree shares that opinion. I think that if used properly, they can become another weapon available to the marketing department to get the word out.

Bigsoccer poster, DallasHammster, sums it up very well.

The dancers were beautiful, polite, and charming, and had an acceptable show at halftime. I’ve been to seven Tigres games at Estadio Universitario in Monterrey, and seen no less than three “porrista” squads. Besides the team’s own, there is always one sponsored by a beer company and one sponsored by a cement company. Often there is a fourth sponsored by a soft drink company. Since so many seem enamored with the idea of MLS emulating the leagues of other countries, rather than finding its own identity, why not be like Mexico, since that is the “big league” which is geographically closest to us?

What do you think about the new FC Dallas dancers?

The dancers were great. They were very attractive, courteous and a great addition to the game. Good performance!

The dancers were pretty good looking, and were a nice way to greet fans when they came into the stadium. They gave out the programs and would pose for pictures with everyone. I was not a big fan at first, as I don’t think they really belong in soccer, but now I kind of like them.

I think there are other more pressing issues that need attention at PHP.. like staffing concession stands with people who know how to operate a cash register.

Personally I thought the Sounders marching band was a much classier act and something that actually contributed to the game atmosphere…

    Thumbs down here.

I’m waiting for one of Cunningham’s errant blasts to clear the cross bar and whack one of the dancers. He pegged a kid last night in the play area.

Oh, and I’d be up for playing in / conducting the 3rdDegree marching band.

As a fellow writer at 3rd Degree, I will go on record as agreeing with Chamo. If applied correctly, these girls can do all kinds of marketing events in the community. This is a good marketing tool. And FCD needs all they can get.

The people I brought to the game last night were first-timers and really liked the girls. Take from that what you will.

Count me as one of the those who like the idea. They were very friendly and helped build the game-day atmosphere in their own way. Everyone they interacted with walked away smiling. As JC said, their addition also opens up another avenue for marketing this team.
I think we should keep in mind that one, singular addition will not make the game atmosphere immensely better. But the addition of the Dancers and hopefully some other additions (the marching band idea sounds good) will contribute to making PHP an awesome place to watch a game.

I went to the game for the first time with a group of friends and I loved the entire experience (except that FC lost). The dancers were great, professional and classy. What I expect to see in Dallas. I’ll be back again!

I was curious to see what the dancers would bring to the game day experience at PHP and I was not the least bit disappointed. Not only did they perform well during halftime, but they were also polite and a very attractive. I look forward to seeing them at more games and hopefully participating in events around the community with the guys.
