2009 FC Dallas Player Salaries

March 6th, 2009 . 2:51 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

The MLS Players union has again posted the salaries for the entire league as they are as of this week.  Here’s the list of the FC Dallas player and their deals.  Remember that these numbers don’t expresses a salary cap number and can only be used as a very rough guideline to what the cap situation might be.

Senior Roster

Last Base Salary Guaranteed Compensation
Jeff Cunningham $255,000.00 $267,500.00
Dave van den Bergh $210,000.00 $227,000.00
Pablo Ricchetti $145,200.00 $151,825.00
Dario Sala $140,000.00 $158,125.00
Andre Rocha $140,000.00 $140,000.00
Drew Moor $132,000.00 $149,188.89
Marcelo Saragosa $120,000.00 $124,285.71
Kenny Cooper $105,000.00 $108,000.00
Daniel Torres $100,000.00 $110,000.00
Dax McCarty $55,605.00 $68,105.00
Blake Wagner $50,930.00 $63,430.00
Aaron Pitchkolan $50,000.00 $51,250.00
Steve Purdy $40,000.00 $40,000.00
Ray Burse $34,650.00 $34,650.00
Michael Dello-Russo $34,650.00 $34,650.00

Three senior roster players missing: David Ferreira (high?), George John (low?), and Jamie Watson (low?) or whoever beats him out.

Generation adidas

Last Base Salary Guaranteed Compensation
Anthony Wallace $75,000.00 $108,000.00
Eric Avila $70,000.00 $103,000.00
Josh Lambo $70,000.00 $103,000.00
Brek Shea $70,000.00 $103,000.00
Bruno Guarda $70,000.00 $90,500.00
Peri Marosevic $55,000.00 $88,000.00

Some Thoughts

- Cooper doesn’t make $80,000 anymore.  He’s still underpaid though.

- Daniel Torres looks a little pricier than I expected.  I would have guessed $80k.  $100 is the new $80.

- Steve Purdy has a typical “bypass MLS and you get hosed if you don’t make it to the big time” contract and looks like he may start over Torres.

- Andrew Rocha could be a highly paid backup this year, and consequently Dax McCarty may be an underpaid starter.

- Peri Marsovic has what is typically a college Ga deal versus what is usually a U17 Ga deal like Lambo and Shea.  Not sure how Avila has the bigger deal.

- Ricchetti, Sala, and Moor all look like nice solid value deals.   Sala might even be a steal for a top flight keeper.

- At that number Cunningham better produce some top notch goal totals.

- There don’t seem to be as many underpaid players this year, or underpaid in my opinion.

Buzz, do you feel like FC Dallas has money to spend and would be willing? Kenny getting a new contract?

Our 3rd string, won’t see any playing time, Keeper makes 3x more than the 2nd string keeper???? HSG hitting on all cylinders as usual…how does Hitch keep his job?

FCD has some money and they made an offer in the region of mid $300,000s. With bonuses it would appraoach $400k. But Cooper’s agent turned that deal down in under 2 seconds.

FCD/MLS/HSG won’t make Cooper a DP and Cooper’s agent/people won’t let him sign for less than DP.

So he’ll either be sold or they’ll let his contract run out and then leave.

I am eternally perplexed as to why the Hunts own sports teams. The passion left with Lamar. I can’t wait until Buzz or one of the Inferno win Powerball. Then we’d have fun ownership!

What the hell Kenny,Dax,Ray are being screwed. They are paying Bruno WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. Lambo is making more than Ray. Jeff is making more than Kenny Dax is making less than boy toy. This _ _ _ _ up.No wonder we are losing. Look how front office treats the players.

You can’t blame the FO for the high Generation Adidas salaries. The league sets them to prevent the players from jumping to Europe (and they don’t count against the salary cap). You can’t compare those salaries against those negotiated by FCD.

Yes, Coop deserves more, but Buzz is right that neither can/will accept what the other wants.
Ray will get a raise if/when he takes the starting spot from Sala.
Dax and Wagner seem like the only good bets to earn a raise. Maybe they’ll give some more money to Ricchetti, too.
I don’t see anyone that’s grossly overpaid here.

Its ridiculous what Jeff makes… He is in the top 20 of the league. I would be ok with FC paying him 120k max…..
