Who Starts the Opener in Midfield?
February 27th, 2009 . 10:48 am . By: Buzz CarrickYou would think this would be a no brainer, but it’s not. Here’s why. - Pablo Ricchetti, pending some appeal or rule we don’t know about, is suspended. He got an extra game for his violent conduct red card against RSL in the penultimate game last year. - Aaron Pitchkolan, a possible Ricchetti replacement, is suspended as well for his red card in the season final against LA. - Marcelo Saragosa, the most likely Ricchetti replacement, is your starting right back these days and is also hurt. To what extent we don’t yet know, although FCD doesn’t seem to think it’s serious. - Adrian Serioux, another hypothetical Ricchetti replacement, has been traded. - Schellas Hyndman seems to not like Dax McCarty to much as a holding mid and he’s going to get the first shot at right mid anyway. - Andre Rocha is firmly in the doghouse for lack of fitness and he’s not much of a holding mid anyway. So where does that leave FCD for a holding mid against the Fire? Dello-Russo, who has played there some in reserve games? How about Brek Shea, who we saw there once or twice this spring, or Anthony Wallace, who Morrow thought was best in that spot? The U20 CONCACAF Championship end on the 15th so they could be back in time. My guess is it will be Bruno Guarda, who the coach trusts and might be a better long term fit at holding mid than attacking mid anyway, leaving the hypothetical rest of the midfield intact: Dave van den Bergh, David Ferreira, and McCarty. 5 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

You pretty much said it all.
I think Buzz should get the start…kind of an honorary thing for all his gratis work over the years. Buzz for Middie!
I swear I did not read this article before I posted on BigSoccer.
Has to be Bruno, since he provides “instant defense.”
Wow, it’ll be an interesting first game!
If it’s bruno whatch them walk right through our middle. Wow, sounds like a great way to start the season. Is i just the first game that our captain is suspended
