Austin and Monterrey

Player swaps, some shared scouting, some coaching exchanges, and training camp opportunities. Nice relationship if it pans out for them like it’s written. There’s some nice moves going on down there with Austin. They’ve got a youth club, a PDL side, some players already signed for their new senior team. Heck that gives them one tier more than FCD has. Plus they already have a relationship with Stoke City as the Aztex owner has a partial stake in said club. The Austin Aztex start their inaugural season of play in April but if one is so inclined the Aztex as playing New England, Houston, and Columbus on Feb 28th, Mar 7, and Mar 14 respectively. Dig the unis too, a classic Althletico Madrid like combination. (or Chivas?) 7 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

The unis are inspired by Stoke City I believe.
I’m sure they were, but when I see them I don’t think “Oh, Stoke City” I think “Oh, Atletico Madrid”
Buzz, I’m doing alot of photo stuff for these guys. Its a really good crew that do things right. really exciting for the Aus soccer community. This aint no Austin Posse train wreck!!
Nice to hear John. You can never have to many good soccer organizations.
I’m an Austinite myself and I’m pretty psyched about the new team. Unfortunately they’ll be playing at a high school football stadium. It at least seats 10,000 and I was told that it’s only a temporary measure. If only UT would rent them Mike A Myers stadium. It’s completely empty during the summer – 22,000 seat SSS just north of downtown Austin adjacent to I-35, a university of 50,000, and several parking structures. I exchanged emails with the owner and he basically told me that UT would not even negotiate. In this instance, it’s too bad they don’t need the money.
The Aztex USL1 side played a scrimmage against the Rev’s today. They split both squads into 3 units, and each unit played 30 minutes games. The Aztex side won the first match 1-0, the second 2-0 and drew with the Rev’s 0-0 in the third. That means they had an aggregate of 3-0. Aztex fans are really optimistic about not only our season, but also Saturday night when we take the Rev’s on in an exhibition match!
I’ve also heard rumors here in Austin that the Aztex are trying to set up a pre-season match with FCD, up in Dallas. Here’s hoping!
