Serioux Traded to TFC
February 23rd, 2009 . 9:46 pm . By: Buzz CarrickAccording to 3rd Degree sources the hypothetical deal that was making the rounds today has now gone down and Adrian Serioux has been traded to Toronto FC. While it’s unknown at this time what FCD got in return, our sources say Serioux is on a plane to Ft. Lauderdale tonight to join TFC in Sunrise, Florida. It seems apparent that the combination of the tryout of Marcelo Saragosa at right back, plus the presence of so many new center backs that may allow Drew Moor to play wide right, has made Serioux surplus to requirements here in Dallas. Serioux had long wanted to play in Canada and had made it known in Dallas his desire to go north. Serioux was originally selected by TFC from Houston Dynamo in the expansion draft when Houston left him unprotected for the express purpose of playing at home, only to have TFC turn around and trade him to Dallas. In two season with Dallas, Serioux has started 36 games, including playoffs, gathering four assists. edit: It’s now official, here’s the PR… IN EXCHANGE FOR 1st ROUND DRAFT PICK AND ALLOCATION MONEYFRISCO, Texas (Tuesday, February 24, 2009) – FC Dallas today acquired Toronto FC’s natural first round selection in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft and allocation money in exchange for defender Adrian Serioux. The 29-year-old started all 34 regular season games he appeared in during his two seasons with FCD, including all four positions on the back line and as a defensive midfielder. His career-high four assists in 2008 were good for second on the team. Serioux was originally acquired by FCD from Toronto on Nov. 17, 2006, although he never played for the Canadian club. Toronto had selected the defender in that day’s expansion draft before sending him to Dallas along with the club’s second round 2007 MLS SuperDraft pick (14th overall) in exchange for midfielder Ronnie O’Brien. Dallas also holds Toronto FC’s natural second round pick in the 2010 SuperDraft, which was acquired in a 2008 trade that sent Abdus Ibrahim to Toronto. 20 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

awesome, glad to hear it, a welcomed addition to TFC
lets hope his injuries and national team call ups dont play too big a factor in this season for him
Nice to have you home Serioux!
The deal was in the hands of MLS head office as of earlier this evening so I guess they pushed it through.
Welcome home Adrian.
I hear that another CB will be signed before the team heads off to Charleston and at least 1 (and possibly 2) current defender(s) will be cut loose to make room on the roster
Interesting news VPjr, curious to see whos cut and who stays, i wonder if Velez is gone as opposed to one of our Canadian youths (i really hope not, not that i hate Velez, which many supporters do)
I guess i should clarify, id prefer Velez gone to one of our canadians
hey nooks,
go discuss your teams structure on your team dedicated website…
i always liked serioux but i thought he didnt push up enough without making mistakes to be a decent fullback and pablo is our DM, so he didnt have a spot.
Good guy, okay player
I love it when hard workers get a chance to play in front of a home crowd
all the best
I will miss his magical mystery throws. Anybody know if Rory Delap is available in the next window?

What do you mean “okay player?” Serioux was one of our best defenders! He worked harder than any other defender we had last season. He will be sorely missed if we don’t find someone to fill his place. Can we get Goodson back?
Very Disappointed. Yahoo was one of my favorite players and was the only real tough guy that this team had. I think this team is going to miss much more then just his play on the field.
Personally I was always disappointed in his availability.
e.g. from above: “In two season with Dallas, Serioux has started 36 games, including playoffs,…”
Update: 2010 first rounder and allocation $$$.
Buzz, do you think the team is stockpiling allocation money in order to either re-sign Cooper to a sizeable contract or to replace him in case he’s off in the Summer?
I think it more likely they are stockpiling money for the second window when their Allocation will be top of the list. (or at worst 2nd).
So, if texg is correct, and ignoring the complications of the Ibby deal, then in 2010 we have all our own picks, TFC’s 1st & 2nd, and Columbus’ 2nd & 3rd. Correct?
Please no Goodson. We are finally getting solid in the back.
“I think it more likely they are stockpiling money for the second window when their Allocation will be top of the list. (or at worst 2nd).”
Articles have been written about Beasley and Eddie Johnson potentially returning to MLS. As much as EJ annoys me on the NT, I’d love to have him back in Dallas, especially if we lose Cooper in that window.
Steve, if EJ does not start receiving playing time, he should consider returning to MLS and sharpen his skills. He wont better himself if he is not playing.
although i like adrian, we have enough ammo in our backline where he could be deemed expendable. someone had to go back there, and we just happened to have gotten a pretty good deal out of it. his injuries are concerning, and may be close to the end of his career anyways. this way, drew could probably slide out there where his crosses could be utilized much more.
i like the idea of stocking up for the 2nd transfer window. beasley and EJ sound good, but i’m sure we can turn it around for some pretty good players if we decide to trade that spot. possibilities are there for this club.
