Serioux to Toronto? 2.0

February 23rd, 2009 . 3:13 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Edit: As of about 10 PM tonight we’re learned this story is no longer accurate.

As was mentioned earlier this week, the Adrian Serioux to Toronto rumors that have persisted all winter have picked up new momentum.  Now it’s gotten to the point Goff says FCD is planning to send Serioux to TFC for an allocation and a draft pick.

I checked with FCD sources this afternoon and am told there has been discussion with Toronto about Serioux but that no deal is done at this time.

However the fact this renewed chatter and talk about a possible deal has come the same week we have seen an extensive Marcelo Saragosa try out at right back and a Drew Moor appearance wide right can’t be a coincidence.  Certainly the signs are there that a deal could be going down this week.  Serioux’s presence, or lack there of, on the Brazil trip will tell us a great deal.

Serioux has long expressed a desire to play in Canada,  once having gotten taken by TFC in the expansion draft only to be caught off guard by an immediate trade to Dallas.

dang it. I can appreciate him wanting to play in his home country, but we will certainly miss his grit back there. Although with SportySpice apparently leaving the LAGs for Italy I was already a little disappointed. I wanted to see another “welcome to MLS” tackle…

I would be sorry to see him go but not because I want to see another tackle like that! He deserved the card he got – it was a stupid, Kovelenko-type move!

    making room for Pitchkolan?

If this happens, Toronto will be 1 player away from even thinking about putting forward a starting lineup with a majority of Canadians (Sutton, Brennan, Harmse, DeRo)

AS was a good journeyman but really has become excess to requirements. We can get his job done just as well but cheaper.

Adrian is injury prone and the Toronto turf will end his career early. Stay in TX.

The one man on our back four who could properly execute a well-timed tackle (though he’s made an absolute cruncher now and then!).

A hard working stalwart (usually) in defense.

    Fierce hair style!

Made a sparkling run on the wing last season against I-forget-who. Only reason he couldn’t keep his finishing shot down was because he got a huge adrenaline rush! (Like to think so anyway).

Fair play to him, best of luck Adrian! Thanks for the memories.

I’m let down, but on the other hand let the guy go play for a club in his country. He gave so much personality to our team, its too bad.

    best of luck to Serioux!

Toronto needs defensive help. He can play all over the back line.
