FCD Parts Ways with Sean Bucknor

February 23rd, 2009 . 8:57 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

According to our sources FCD has cut recently signed discovery Sean Bucknor.  Bucknor, who was signed following the MLS SuperDarft, was brought into the fold based on his upside and potential.   It seems that FCD coach Shcellas Hyndman has deemed Bucknor is to raw at this time and the Jamaican will not be joining the team in Brazil.

In the modern MLS this signing and subsequent cut are emblematic of the current state of the league.  Having been burned by previous trials and attempts to sign such players are Doudou Toure and Francis Doe only to lose out on the player come time to put pen to paper for various reasons; FCD, perhaps somewhat nefariously, this time signed the player in advance of the long trial to a non-guarantee contract that they could late void with no penalty.

Bucknor is a former Jamaican U17 out of the University of Tampa but has US Citizenship.  Bucknor is a tall and speedy striker who played some JuCo ball before transferring to Tampa where he was ineligible last year.  Bucknor was undrafted this year and came into FCD camp as a free agent trialist.

It remains to be seen if Bucknor will continue to train and develop with FCD or attempt to catch on somewhere else.
