“So, how do you think they did?” I can’t tell you how many times I was asked that in the aftermath of the MLS SuperDraft. It’s the most frequently asked question for about a week from fans, media, other teams, and even FCD staffers. So I’m going to kill a couple birds with one stone here and evaluate the FCD haul. Given the circumstances, I think FCD did a good job with the draft, but maybe could have done just a bit more with a little risk to help the team in the near term.

When I sat down to do a Mock Draft last night I got one mostly done, then I realized how stupid the whole thing was cause I was just guessing on pretty much the entire thing. Some years there’s a dead solid lock for #1, like Maurice Edu for example. This year that’s not the case. Add to that the willingness of the #1 team, Seattle, to trade out and combine it with trader Mo sitting at #2 and there is going to be come chaos this morning at the Draft.

FC Dallas has announced they have signed Ex-Cal center back Steve Purdy. The 6′4″ Purdy graduated from Cal in 2006 after starting four straight year for the Bears. Selected for the MLS Combine, Purdy never showed up, instead opting to sign with 1860 Munich in Germany’s Bundesliga 2. Purdy is big and fast and will in all likelihood fill Duilio Davino’s spot in the FCD back line.
