O’Brien Out of San Jose

January 22nd, 2009 . 1:39 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Old friend Ronnie O’Brien is ending his days in San Jose.  He’s apparently had a falling out disagreed with John Doyle over how much of a pay cut to take, and “had a falling out” with his agent Pat McCabe.  O’Brien now has a new agent and odds are now that Ronnie will end up back in Europe.

Anyone want to see Ronnie O back on the right side of the Dallas midfield?  He sure fits the Hyndman mold of a pure wide midfielder, and the people he fell out with here are now gone.

One can’t help but wonder if FCD couldn’t send McCarty out there for O’Brien’s rights.  Hummm.

    ‘now’ gone or ‘not’ gone?

Anyway, I’d trade McCarty and say, an Anthony Wallace or Lambo/Burse for Ronnie O. The question is, what’s the minimum Ronnie wants to play here in Dallas? $240 is too much.

$200K would do the trick for ROB and he loves the area and still rents out a TH here. He only left because of the Clarke/Morrow staff whcih he just didn’t respect.

He seems to clash with people a lot. Was he a problem here? I’d like him back for the right price, if I was convinced he would fit in. Would he?

Let’s see…..he’s “fallen out” with the following:

    Juventus
    Middlesborough
    FCD
    Toronto
    San Jose

I’m sure in each instance it was “the other people’s fault” and not his.

I love ROB as a player, just not sure about the rest.

I agree with Buzz.. this is a player SH would covet and an ideal trade for Dax.. but I don’t know if a deal is possible.

If it’s done, trading Dax for ROB should be a one for one.

I, for one, wouldn’t take ROB back. Good player on the field, but reminds me of a TO-type issue off the field and in the locker room.

I’m with texgator and B on this. I loved him while he was here, but let’s move on…

This isn’t boyscouts or u-8 soccer; this is professional soccer and ability always outweighs personality. This is winning not character development. He can play at a high levle so let’s get him if we can. (or just keep losing)

count me in the no-ROB camp. He friggin hurt himself kicking a teammate in Toronto. Just not worth the drama at this point.

It is too bad to see him leave SJ. I dont blame him for wanting to make money. His window is very short

i’d take ROB in a heartbeat. just imagine VDB and ROB flanking either side. DANGEROUS! UNSTOPPABLE!

To me when he was at FCD, ROB issue is that he seems to think he should have been a forward instead of a winger. He also spent too much time shaking his head back and forth in disappointment with his teammates. Reality is tht he can be a major distraction for his teammates and coaches…however the results do speak for themself. I think the deal is that you can only sign him to one year at a time…after that he wears everyone out.

Tex, there was alot more to it than not getting along with the staff when he was here…Alot more.
