To "kevin" re: "The only reason you trade a young and cheap player for an old and expensive one is that you think you can win now. That is stupid."

No, kevin, what that is is a lousy comparison. It would be one thing if the two players you speak of played the exact same position and filled the exact same need. They do not. One is a backup forward. The other will be a starting wide midfielder. FCD should be very much better for this trade, for many reasons already noted here.

Good luck to Dom in the future, but this is a good deal for FCD now - and that is what matters to most of us here: the best interests of the team. If you're only going to games because some of the guys play ball with your kids, then that's too bad. Your prerogative, though. But count me as one who's more concerned with the team than with individuals.

Buzz,
Do you happen to know if FCD is going to send another one of the players to NY with Dom? I heard a rumor about it but I don't know if it's true.

Ives just posted that FCD may trade Dax and a draft pick (maybe the #5) for the first pick. In the same article he also mentioned that Chivas are starting to unload Bornstein. Maybe Dax and Bornstein can switch the orientation of their red strip jerseys?

I actually think McCarty would do well in Mexico. They covet clean passers and the tackling would not be as tough as MLS.

Dallas has been one of the most talented teams in my mind for the last few years, but the pieces have to fit. I love this deal because FCD managed to likely upgrade the talent level while fulfilling a need. I don't expect deals like this to keep falling in their laps, but at least they had the good sense to not mess it up. I hope FCD can find a good suitor for Dax that has an extra center back or some allocation they can use to go get a center back. He's a class player and I wish him the best.

Haha Buzz - prime response. Especially the last sentence ("I own the site").

On a different note, I think this team could be one of the best in the league, I just hope our ignorant GM doesn't hold us back from fulfilling our potential. (I'm sorry, everytime I hear anything come out of Hitchcock's mouth it confirms my suspicion that he does not know A THING about the sport. Maybe management, but not soccer.)

Bubbles, You called me out on a piece of information. I explained it. What did you expect me to do? Ignore you attempting to correct me when I knew what I said was right in the first place? Of course I was and am going to respond. I own the site.

And I frequently said nice things about Dom. Here's one...
http://www.3rddegree.net/2008/10/120-fahrenheit-expansion-draft-2008/
from my suggested expansion draft protected list just a couple months ago.

I'm sorry your favorite player got traded.

@Bubbles:

Buzz has said plenty of good things about Oduro over the years, and the fact that you haven't seen any of them makes you appear incompetent at best. It's pretty easy to search 3rd Degree's archive.

Your last post was obnoxious and rude, and completely unappreciative of the huge amount of work Buzz puts in for us FCD fans. Please leave.

Oh, Bubbles... leave Buzz alone. Yes, trading a 23 (soon to be 24) year-old for a 32 (soon to be 33) year-old is trading potential for proven track-record. Yes, Oduro has tons of speed, potential, moxie, and a je ne sais quoi (that's French for why can't he finish?). Van den Bergh is tall, can cross, and is at the tail-end of what is considered by most to be a fab career. Oduro may or may not pan out. Van den Bergh may or may not have something left in him to contribute to FCD. That's why we play the games.
