Serioux to TFC?

January 5th, 2009 . 5:11 pm . By: Buzz Carrick

Ives says FCD wants to send Serioux to TFC along with another pick to get to #2…

Sources tell SBI that the Hoops are working hard to trade up to the No. 2 slot to grab Maryland central defender and Dallas-area product Omar Gonzalez. FC Dallas currently holds the No. 5 and No. 11 picks and one possibility could see the Hoops packaging defender Adrian Serioux with one of its first-round picks for Toronto FC’s No. 2 overall pick.

I don’t think that’s going to happen and here’s why.

1. Schellas Hyndman doesn’t really like kids all that much and frankly there’s no one in this draft, as good as it is, that can walk in and take FCD up to the top third of teams in MLS.

2. The draft is getting thinner.  Already Ike Opara, the best defender out there, is staying in school.  And the grapevine is today saying Marcus Tracy has signed in Europe and is no longer in the MLS SuperDraft nor going to the MLS Combine.

3. Omar Gonzalez is not Ike Opara. Omar has some game, but based on several factors and comments I don’t think he’s as highly regarded by FCD as Opara and even if Omar ends up in Dallas he almost certainly wouldn’t start.

4. Serioux is worth MORE than the #2 pick.  Serioux is a starter here, and he’s got a ring, plus a ton of experience and grit.  He would also be a domestic player for TFC and a relative draw being a Canadian International.  So if this deal was real it would be FCD saying “send us the #2 PLUS another pick or allocation money and we’ll send you Serioux.”

5. I’ve asked around quite a few of my sources here in Dallas and got blank stares and a total nothing on anything happening with Serioux.

So needless to say if this deal happens I’ll be shocked.

Now if Ike Opara signs Generation adidas in the next week I might have to change my mind about this.

TFC will give two picks up and possibly allocation.

If you’re right that changes things. I’m still hearing nothing down here, but that value would make more sense.

Sounds logical but I didn’t think the Dynamo would trade De Rasario either.

Who was Hyndman looking at in South America?

This trade would make sense if Hyndman has a player on the hook and needs the cap space and International spot.

I don’t think anyone outside the Metroplex thinks Serioux is worth the #2 pick, let alone more than the #2 pick. He’s crap.

wow. first DeRo, now (speculation points to) Serioux? sometimes i wonder if garber’s pulling *all* the strings.

I posted the same thing on SBI. Nothing about this rumor makes sense from an FCD point. You trade a starter and a pick to move up say 3 or 4 places? You aren’t necessarily filling a hole by bringing in a kid, but you are certainly creating a hole at right back. So you havent solved your starting 11 problems, you have potentially shifted them, or created 2 holes instead of 1.

That would be retarded to trade 2 first round picks for Gonzales in the first place. Little bro played against him in club for years . . Not gonna make a big impact in MLS imo. We need to draft for athleticism in the back, hopefully Ipara, and try to add a speedy forward like Zakuani or Tracy

Didn’t Mo Johnston trade Serioux to FCD in the first place? He’s still still in the front office in Toronto, right?

    Buzz – this reported three-way deal true?…

    Dallas: #2 pick, Eddie Lewis

    Toronto: Adrian Serioux, Ante Jazic

Los Angeles: #4 pick, #5 pick, #18 pick, Johann Smith

I’d be pretty disappointed if Serioux were to get dealt. I think that he has been a rare consistent part of a back line that at times has been downright apalling. He’s also the only we’ve got who isn’t afraid to make a tackle.

Has anyone seen the story on Denilson??

Wander what they see that we didn’t?

FCD, as of last night there was no deal on the table for Serioux that any of my sources knew about. Sure it’s possible… but I would be a bit surprised.

Still Dallas would like to move up, but then again so would almost everyone else.

I wouldn’t be surprised if trader Mo is putting out all these rumors.

very possible, Mo likes to shake things up.

I really like your pieces for espn on the draft. I will be at the combine so hopefully I will get to meet you. Thanks again for the articles they were great.

w/ SH wanting more veterans instead of youth, i don’t see why FCD would give up adrian. he seems to be a Schellas fav.

w/ marcus tracy pulling out of the draft, how about giving o’brian white a try?

    Steve-
He was traded for Ronnie Obrien and he was out for 6 months with a broken leg. His current physical situation certainly changes things

Does Serioux even want to play in TFC for Mo Johnston? I’m starting to think NO

Mo has traded Serioux away twice (from NYRB to Houston and then from TFC to FCD). Apparently the NY to Houston trade was very upsetting to Adrian from a personal level.

As a TFC supporter and Canadian NT supporter, I’d love to see Serioux wearing TFC Red in 2009. However, I suspect that Buzz is 100% right….its gonna take a lot more than the #2 pick to extract an experienced, hard nosed defender who can bomb 40 yard laser like throw ins into the 18 yard box…2 picks and allocation seems like a more realistic price but the question is whether Mo rates Serioux enough to give up that much. i do…I don’t rate draft picks at all so I’d do it everyday of the week.

    this week should be interesting.
