Other Moves
December 2nd, 2008 . 2:36 pm . By: Buzz CarrickThe FCD Blog is chock full today… Wagenfuhr and Sikora options not picked up, they are 2 of 7 players not picked up. That’s not the same as being waived as not picking up option doesn’t remove FCD rights to the player. It just makes them free outside of MLS, similarly to being out of contract. If we have to guess at the other five not picked up? 3. Jamie Watson 4 Comments Comments RSS TrackBack Identifier URI Leave a comment |

Burse? I thought Schellas mentioned something about him competing for the starting job. Perhaps they’re just redoing his contract.
So help me out here.. If you waive someone that means that you don’t give a toss whether another team picks them up… but if so, does that mean that if another MLS team acquires them that they have to pay them according to their current MLS contract or is everything renegociable?
So I guess if you waive them, that that essentially means that you really don’t want that player and you feel they offer you nothing in terms of bargaining power in a trade.
If you don’t pick up the option, that means that you want to prevent someone else in MLS from picking them up - you retain their rights.. but at this stage you may be trying to re-negociate with that player, with your only competition being teams outside of MLS?
So if you fail to pick up their option this means that you may still want that player, but not at their currrent price tag. Can you trade a player if you don’t pick up their option? How does that affect the bargaining?
Chris, Burse or Pitch I would think. Since burse moved from Dev to senior roster I guess him.
Nathan… some times it means the team wants to let the player get a shot at other teams… but in essence a waive is you don’t care where they go. if you clear waivers you are free inside MLS. If claimed they claim your current salary.
not picking up the option means the contract has expired but inside MLS they are not a free agent.
clear as mud?
Viktor was productive, and I liked the dude.
